Default New TOS (typo: still 5 activations)

Quote:
VERY IMPORTANT:

This is a typo - the number of activated consoles is STILL 5

You should receive an updated email within the next few days.

All sensible and reasonable amendments in my opinion.

If they're going to reduce numbers though, I think it'd be in Sony's best interest to implement a function to deactivate a PS3 system from a PC, or by calling Sony.

i guess theyre doing what they have to do if they want to offer continually more and more games through download, wont affect me too much though, i tried trading once, didnt work out real well, turned me off to trading altogether

Currently? Or you replaced one without deactivating?

Oh my God, Neogaf will go crazy.

I think this TOS works only from this day forward. So for any system/ user setting up new accounts this will be the TOS for everyone from this day forward.

It will be kind of hard for Sony to go back and apply this to every previous PSN user/account I would think. And then old users would be in a uproar that this is not the TOS they signed up for at the very beginning (as well is within there right to be). Sony will probably get alot flack for this. I don't know why they had to change it anyway.

Either way this doesn't effect me but NeoGAF will be in a uproar and I have my popcorn.

The way it works, is if you were above 5, you keep those, till you deactivate one. When you do, then you lose that activation forever.

It will likely apply to everyone from now on. Sony has the ability to change their TOS anytime. I haven't looked personally, but I'm sure they have the "we reserve the right to change ...". On top of that, it is a free service they provide.
In theory the only people who will be affected by this change are those who are up to "no good" anyways. I don't agree with game sharing, but I even if I did I would understand that I have no place to be complaining about someone stopping me from stealing. Unfortunately (as with most other things), because of game sharing people like caliblue are going to be affected by Sony's attempt to curb the problem.

Dude, I've heard stories of SOOOOO many people complaining about gamesharing and this is what they now get- screwing with people who used the system properly. Again, I really believe this is not over. Even more people who called Sony then will call Sony now and complain. Again, get out the popcorn.

I posted this on Neogaf just now and already we have a 70 post thread about it. LOL

Yep, it's unfortunate. I'm not trying to single anyone here out (I know game sharing is very commonplace), but the reason for all DRM, copy-protection, restricted use, etc is because of people sharing media (music, movies, games). The sad part is, people who do steal music/movies still get around all the restrictions, and then all the people using the media for its every day purpose are the ones affected by them.

Yeah well, neogaf isn't what you'd call Sony friendly.

People who do things like game sharing always say "Why should you care? It doesn't affect YOU". This is how it affects people.

On some level we are lucky they didn't go to a "1 download, 1 PS3" model.

Good news to me, as it finally gives me good reason to stop buying PS3s. My wife was a pretty good sport with the first two as it was one per level of our house, main floor and upstairs. But when I got one for the workout room in the basement I was already approaching the limits of her tolerance of my stupidity. Now I officially have to stop, which is good because if the price keeps dropping on them I might have eventually ended up at the old limit of 5.

This blows! We have multiple systems AND multiple accounts. Alex and I each have our own PSN accounts and a joint PSN account.

We have our game and DLC purchases spread out between all 3 accounts depending on which credit card we felt like using on any given day. We've had a 60gb since day 1 and bought 2 slims the second day they were out, 1 of which we gave to my sister, bro-in-law and their kids. All 3 systems have all 3 accounts on them and my personal account is also on a friend's system. Will he have to deactivate my account from his system so the 3 PS3s I've purchased don't get locked out?

So...I guess Sony never wants me to buy a 4th PS3 in my lifetime

I'm having trouble getting that 3rd one too. She doesn't see the benefits!! Apparently 2 is the magic number for women.
