Question Oppo BDP83 vs. Denon 2500 BTCI

I decided to pick up the Oppo and sold my BD60 to a friend of mine. I wanted a player without any freezing issues and so far haven't had any problems with the Oppo. However like most of you said I would not see a difference in picture quality and that is correct. Now I am looking at the Denon 2500BTCI. This unit has been discontinued so I am a little cautious about buying it. Just in terms of picture quality which is the better choice? Tried another Panasonic but when I downloaded the latest firmware I started getting freezing issues. Not interested in Samsung or Sony models. Tried the Pioneer 320 but load times were too long. Tried the LG BD390 but picture was no better than the Oppo. I have the PS3 slim but I want a standalone blu ray player for movies. Television is the Panny 50V10 and the receiver is the Onkyo TX SR806.

??????????????
You are having no problems with the OPPO, and you want to replace it WHY ???
You have the best player on the market ... it's all downhill from there !
You must have more money than you know what to do with!

No I do not have a lot money. I'm just very good at returning things that I don't like. It's not that I don't like the Oppo but in terms of picture quality it isn't any different than let's say the Panasonic. With all the high ratings that this player received I was expecting to be blown away but so far I am not. What is your opinion as far as picture quality compared to the PS3?

For BD playback, you will see minimal to no difference from one player to another. Where the difference lies is in SD DVD upconversion. The Oppo is rated as the bast at this and has been with almost every previous DVD player they have released.

If you are using bitstreamed audio over HDMI, you should see very little difference from one player to another. Analog audio is very good with the Oppo, but there are otherplayers that do it better. This is why Oppo has released their SE verision (and of course you can go all out with the NuForce edition).

So, I guess back to what others have asked. Why are you looking at another player?

We have both, and we think the OPPO is superior.
A plus is the low power consumption and low heat signature and noise level of the OPPO. We use the PS-3 for games only, and the OPPO for movies and SACD.
We also have a large DVD collection, and the OPPO upconverts them to near Blu-ray video level.
In addition, I am VERY impressed with OPPO's support. Thy actually answer the phone, and watch these boards to early-detect any issues with their player.
OPPO deserves our support.

From what I've read picture quality do not differ much for blu-ray disc between the better quality players. However, there should at least be some difference between the LG and Oppo. What sort of improvements in picture quality are you looking for and how were you doing the video comparison?

I'm also curious about the discontinued Denon, it seems to be a good price for well built player. It does have its own issues though.

I had the Denon briefly. From what I remember the picture was better than my DMP BD60. The colors were brighter and much more detailed on blu ray movies. The sound was excellent. The reason why I sent it back was because updating the firmware was a pain in the ass and it didn't play standard dvd's well at all. I saw small artifacts on the screen. Ultimately I am deciding to keep the Oppo. I talked to their representative today and he told me what settings to make on the unit.

And, again, that may be the best reason of all to buy the OPPO!
They have the best, mot accessible customer support in the industry. They even monitor these boards th get an early indication of any issues.
