Default LG Blu-ray Burner in External Inclosure

Quick question for all you who experience with pc blu-ray burners. I am going to buy a blu-ray burner from newegg ($129.99). its this lg on:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-175-_-Product

I read on another thread here that it is a pretty good one. But anyways on to the question. I am not really going to use it to watch movies, but to burn data on to blu-ray disc because of their size. (I am digitizing all my dad's slides and photos of the family, so it takes up a lot of room. I up to 4000 slides scanned) I have the new iMac 27" (duel 3.6 ghz, 8gb of ram, OSX & Windows 7 64bit) and to use it i will need to put it in an external enclosure. Does anyone know if there will be problems with it hooked up this way? I have a hp lightscribe drive in an external enclosure and it required a firmware update to work like this (it was a first gen lightscribe, so its old). After the firmware update the lightscribe drive worked just fine via the external enclosure. Just want to make sure a blu-ray burner will work in an external enclosure before i buy it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

What type of interface is there on the external enclosure you're planning to use?

USB 2.0 and Firewire 400 probably aren't fast enough for you to use the LG's maximum BD-R write speed (8X). You may have to restrict yourself to around 4X for USB or 6X for FW400.

A Firewire 800 enclosure (if you can find it) should give you more than enough bandwidth to use the drive at the maximum speed. An eSATA enclosure is probably cheaper and will give you even more headroom bandwidth wise, but I'm not sure that the iMac has that interface.

Note that I don't have personal experience with BD-writers, I'm working from general principles.
