Default First hand looks at "The Host"?

Anyone give an honest opinion about this flick, I missed it at the theatre and almost picked it up today and will by weeks end.

I thought the picture quality was astounding, one of the highest quality titles in my collection.

The movie itself was ok, a little cheesy. If you are into the big monster type movies (Godzilla etc..) then you may enjoy it. The CGI monster effects were unbelievable at times, but I thought the movie was pretty cool.

I was under the influence that this was a horror flick. Is this not a horror type flick and more of a monster (Godzilla) type movie?

Secondly, is it worth buying?

Thanks for your input!

I also bought this movie blind because I wanted a new movie to watch last night...

I thought the picture quality was pretty great actually. I wasn't quite sure the budget the movie had being as it was filmed over seas and I am not familiar with movie companies of other countries...

Most of the picture was spot on and very sharp. The transfer is a pretty decent bitrate VC-1. I think on average it hovered around 20 MBs. There were some scenes that I thought looked a little soft, and a few more scenes that were overly contrasted, but on average the picture was sweet.

The sound wasn't too bad either. I don't know about the HD-DVD version, but the Bluray version has two PCM tracks. One in english dubbed and the other in the original Korean.

I chose to watch the Korean PCM because I wanted to watch the movie as it was meant to be seen.

I didn't get to the extras, but there seems to be a fair amount of them on the disc.

The movie I was half and half over. I mean, I was never a big fan of those monster movies, but this one was, like a lot of other people said kinda cheesy. I thought the monster itself looked horribly cheesy and not at all scary. Overall, I would say I would watch it again on a rainy day...

Its a pretty good Bluray though if you got the money and its burnin a hole.

I didn't even know this was out on blu-ray, actually, I've never heard of it. I saw it at Best Buy when I went there yesterday to buy Weeds: Season 2. I looked it up on rotten tomatoes and it got something like a %92. I think I'm going to have to pick this one up.

The picture quality was pretty good overall, they used VC-1 encoding for this one. I imagine they used the same encoding for the HD DVD version. Though it looked better than most WB titles.

In some places, the contrast was heightened a little too much though. Especially in some shots within the first 20 minutes. The movie was quite a cheesy one but entertaining. It wouldn't had hurt to cut out around 10 to 20 minutes out of it, maybe more.

I'm glad that Alliance Altantis is warming up to Blu-ray in Canada.

Yeah - it looks great on Blu-Ray (as it should), but I thought this movie was over-rated. I have read so much about it that I was really excited about seeing it, only to find it wasn't that great of a horror movie. I'd say more, but it would give away too much of the plot/ending.

Thanks all. Great Feedback, I plan on buying it - I felt the trailers were terrific and just from those I thought that the shoot was going to be pretty clear and I'd expected a "Godzilla type" flick, with a bit of humor, I expect it will be fun entertainment to watch.
