Default SCEA: PS3 Sells 440k During Black Friday Week

http://venturebeat.com/2009/11/30/sh...-black-friday/

Quote:
[Update: Sony spokesman Patrick Seybold said in a statement, "The 2009 holiday season got off to an amazing start for PlayStation, with all key retailers showing a significant increase for PS3, PSP and key holiday titles over Black Friday and the holiday weekend. PlayStation 3 demand was at an all time high with the system selling more than 440,000 units for the week ending 11/29/09.]

That's not too far behind the Wii, which was at 550k for the week.

Biggest PS3 month...ever? Could be...we're looking at > 700k sales in November, and quite possibly over 800k. December will be even bigger. Good to see the PS3 gaining considerable momentum. Very much well deserved with the release of the slim, new price point, and great ad campaign.

I would anticipate that 360 sales will be down considerably YoY, particularly in December and beyond. I see the 360 sales screeching to a halt in early Q1 and beyond while PS3 keeps its momentum strong with huge titles like FFXIII, God of War 3, and Gran Turismo 5.

Giving Nintendo a run for it's money in the US of all places - that's awesome.

One company seemed reluctant to give out their numbers,

I think it is funny how MS declined to provide actual numbers. I really think the 360 has been bringing up the rear since the price drops of all 3 systems. Somehow I think they will try to spin their sales numbers. I saw on the front page of IGN.com that the front page lists the 360 sales double with no mention of PS3 or wii sales on the front page. Someone is definitely getting paid...off.

2x the previous week is pretty bad, IIRC.

PS3 sold 3x the previous week LAST YEAR during Black Friday, and it had a pretty bad November.

Thumbs up

The PS3 is going to blow the 360 out of the water in Q4. Awesome beginning!

The difference is that last year, with the perceived price being too high, PS3 sales were down the toilet since August 08 (and the 360 price dump with an arcade at $199 and a Pro at $299). So doing 3x "toilet level sales" is still much worse than doing 2x "great sales" (since the launch of the Slim and the new $299 price point this year).

Can't wait to see the overall November sales.

Before the price drops I always found the 360 to have better packages..free games and stuff. Since PS3 dropped and 360 dropped I usually see the 360 by itself..no games no nothing. That's where they'll get hurt. Package some Gears 2 or Halo 3 and maybe they'll have some customers...but if Sony makes the same packages we saw on Black Friday readily available for the Holiday season.... they will take it hands down.

I got my brother in law a Ps3 slim, extra DS3 for 300$ tax in. There was no 360 in that price range...not even close than can compete with what the PS3has to offer....oh and it's wireless out of the box. that to me is the biggest selling point....yes it plays Blu Rays too lol.

glad to see great numbers for ps3. im not one to really care about stuff like that, but more systems sold=better chance game devs start making the ps3 a bigger priority, and im all for better quality games

The PS3 is the best machine out there hands down at their asking price. This is going to be their holiday season to shut out the competion :-)

and think about what's coming out for it...MAG...God of War 3...promote those and promote all their other first party stuff like Uncharted...hell give the Ps3 and Uncharted 2 for 299$ come christmas...yikes!!!

I am one of those people that bought one.
Sadly it was only after my launch 60GB died on me the night before Thanksgiving.

Makes perfect sense:
$100 Price Drop + Black Friday + Best Bundles Ever for this system + Years of Pent-up Demand + Economy starting to resurge = record sales for PS3.

great numbers for the PS3. And it's funny how microsoft wont mention their numbers. Last year they were bragging on how they outsold the ps3 2:1 during black friday week

What I'd like to see someday is how many units total sold minus units failed but I'm sure MS won't disclose that particular figure
