Default Help fix my Blu-ray player

I have a samsung BD-P1500 and downloaded the latest firmware for it (version 2.5) and now it won't play any of my blu rays (even the ones it did before). I have tried resetting it many times and called customer service seeing if they could fix the problem. They just had me re-download the new firmware which did absolutely nothing. Then I called them again and told them that it didn't work and they said there was nothing more they could do so I am hoping one of the experts on this forum can help me out.

Bighouse: The same thing happened with my Panasonic BD35. It stopped playing blurays altogether, although it still plays dvds. I think that the laser went out on it. It isn't worth the price to have it fixed so I bit the bullet and bought another one. Sorry to not exactly answer with any advice, except I feel your pain. Look at the Sony BDPN460, $199 at Best Buy. Great player so far.

Chris

for my panny when the firmware for amazon on demand was released i downloaded it and the same issue happened. not a sing blu ray would play. dvds played fine. it wasnt the laser since the day before it was working fine. for me it was the firmware update. for that, there is really nothing that can be done unless your player has a function that will roll back the firmware to a previous one. i had to send my player it to get it serviced. if yours is under warranty as mine was, then get it fixed, if not, i would by another. im looking at oppo

I actually went and bought a sony BDP-S360 but this is my parents player. Do you think that when Samsung issues another firmware update that it will fix the problem?

i doubt it, i have a 1500 with the latest firmware and mine still plays blu rays and dvd's just fine. either your laser wnet out, or something happened during the update that ruined it

What would happen if I were to use the firmware from a higher end model of blu ray player like a BD-P2500?

i wouldnt do it. if its not for your player it may actually make things worse. if your thinking of junking it, then you have nothing to lose. you could always use it as an upscaling dvd player unless another firmware update like you mentioned kills it. its up to you.

Well I tried one more method using the newest firmware. I tried downloading it through the USB (I have tried the internet and a CD) and it still does not work. I guess it is only good for using as an upscaling dvd player now.

One question though. Would only using component cables make any kind of difference. Would it work if I used an HDMI cable?

If you are planning on using it as an upconverting dvd player, HDMI is the only cable that will do,

That stinks. With the price of current players out there, I would not sweat it anymore and just go out and get a new one.......I'm seeing prices of players close to $100 - $129 now.......good luck.

I recommend looking for the Sony BDP-S360 in the $100 - $120 range.

If you are a Costco member, I recommend buying from them as they have a lifetime return policy.

My Samsung BD-P1500 lost it's audio with the firmware upgrade to 2.5. So far I have been unable to solve this problem.

I would double-check that. I think Costco has changed the return policy to 90 days on most CE products. Sam's Club also seems to have changed to 90 days for these type products.
