EA Goes Behind Enemy Lines With Special Edition Of Medal Of Honor For Playstation 3
Jun 15, 2010
Quote:
In 2002, EA introduced the world to Medal of Honor Frontline, a groundbreaking game and massive hit. The game starred a courageous young soldier, Lt. Jimmy Patterson, who fought arm-in-arm with his brothers on the German frontline during WWII. Nearly ten years later, the franchise continues the tradition of telling the soldier’s story; this year, with Medal of Honor set in Afghanistan. Today, EA announced a special edition* of Medal of Honor exclusive for the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system that will include the classic, Medal of Honor Frontline. Available on PlayStation 3 for the very first time, Frontline has been completely remastered in HD with improved graphics, and all of the heart-wrenching battles of the original game.

“Medal of Honor has always been characterized by authenticity and reverence for the soldier. That sentiment has never been truer than it is today,” said Greg Goodrich, Executive Producer of Medal of Honor. “Medal of Honor has had a long, dynamic history on PlayStation platforms. We are excited to continue that tradition today with this special edition ofMedal of Honor that pays homage to the legacy of the franchise on this platform.”

For the first time in its 11-year history, Medal of Honor leaves the WWII theatre and enters the modern day setting of war-torn Afghanistan told through the lens of a small band of fictional characters. Medal of Honor introduces players to the Tier 1 Operator, an elite warrior and relatively unknown instrument of the U.S. Military that operates under the National Command Authority, taking on missions no one else can handle.

Medal of Honor is inviting players worldwide to participate in a massive multiplayer beta test starting on June 21. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 VIPs who have pre-ordered Medal of Honor will be able to enter the multiplayer beta even earlier; starting June 17. For information on beta key distribution details go to the Official Website.

The special edition of Medal of Honor for PlayStation 3 ships on October 12, 2010 in North America and October 15, 2010 in Europe.

Guildford, UK – December 2, 2009 – Medal of Honor™ returns to the front lines, this time in today’s war. For the first time in the franchise’s 10-year history, Medal of Honor is leaving the WWII theatre and putting players in war-torn Afghanistan.

Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) today revealed that in 2010, Medal of Honor, an all-new first-person shooter game, will introduce the Tier 1 Operator: a relatively unknown entity directly under the National Command Authority who takes on missions no one else can handle.

The development team has been working closely with Tier 1 Operators from the US Special Operations Community since the earliest stages of development to create the most authentic modern war experience.

Set against the backdrop of a rugged and brutal landscape, Medal of Honor depicts modern military operations through the lens of a small band of fictional characters. Inspired by real events, Medal of Honor reveals the mission of today’s most elite soldier – his will, his mindset and his uncompromising professionalism.

Medal of Honor is being built with a best-in-class single-player campaign. The Medal of Honor development team at EALA has been hand-selected by the studio leadership of General Manager Sean Decker, Executive Producer Greg Goodrich and Senior Creative Director Rich Farrelly.

To compliment the single-player experience, EALA has enlisted the multiplayer expertise at EA DICE. This team will develop the multiplayer experience of Medal of Honor. These two studios are coming together to deliver a world-class Medal of Honor that is poised to re-set and re-boot the franchise for a new generation.

“When we first set out to reinvent Medal of Honor, we wanted to stay true to its roots of authenticity and respect for the soldier but bring it into today’s war. The Tier 1 Operator is the most disciplined, deliberate and prepared warrior on the battlefield. He is a living, breathing, precision instrument of war.” said Greg Goodrich, Executive Producer, Medal of Honor. “We are honored to have the rare opportunity to work closely with these men to create a game that shares their experience.”

“EA has always been an advocate for telling the soldiers’ story. The new Medal of Honor follows that tradition. We felt it was important to tell the story of today’s war and today’s elite soldiers via today’s most relevant medium – videogames,” said Sean Decker, VP and General Manager of EALA. “We are so proud to bring together two powerhouse development teams to make this game a reality; EA Los Angeles and EA DICE. Medal of Honor promises to be an unforgettable entry in the modern shooter genre.”

Nice. Good to see some competition for Infinity Ward.

I hope it doesn't end up being Modern Warfare meets Mirror's Edge.

I kind of wish they got the Dead Space team to work on it.

It's good to see Medal of Honor back. Seems to almost be full circle, as Call of Duty came out because of the success MOH had and WWII. Now with COD at the top with Modern times, MOH will try to take the top.

I'm excited. Does bring back competition, as long as EA does it right.

Medal of Honor: Modern Warfare?

or

Medal of Honor: Current Fighting?

or

Medal of Honor: Contemporary Combat?

Now that it seems we're all done with WWII, I wonder what Activision does with Treyarch for their Call of Duty games

Awesome, loved these games, the story was always amazing. And started at time where FPS cared about single player....

I'm excited about the "first in class single player experience" part of the article. MOH games always had a very good single player and this could be even better than all the others.

I haven't played a Medal of Honor game since Frontlines on PS2. From what I remember, the majority of the missions have you as the lone solider. I wonder if this will be the same, or if they'll have more squad play like the COD games

I think the rumor was Vietnam.

MOH should be interesting. Adds competition. Find it odd that DICE is working on the multiplayer though, especially since they've been busy with BFBC2 which releases in the same year, and potentially could cannibilize each other.

Hmm, I wonder how DICE will handle the Medal Of Honor reboot with their proprietary Frostbite engine..... maybe include some motion blur and improved water physics?

I hope not (others may differ). The strength of the MOH franchise lies in its single player experience, which I have found to be a more gratifying experience than any multiplayer campaign I have participated in.

No, what I meant was that during the single player mission, will you be a one-man army, or will you do missions with NPCs.

Is it me or is the present day wartime in places in the Middle East becoming the new annoyance in video games? I mean where everyone is now doing it and we're all fed up of it? I remember when the original MoH kickstarted that sort of thing with WWII. Still, I would've like to have seen a Vietnam themed one. Thats an era that has really yet to have much action. Too bad EA already used that in Battlefield.

Saw this on Kotaku earlier today, it looks promising. Hopefully EA won't screw this one up, I've been wanting a GOOD Medal of Honor.

I'm indiffernt about this news. Now instead of the industry being saturated with WWII shooters, it will be saturated with "Modern" shooters that all seem to take place in the middle east. And "Tier 1 Operators" sounds kinds of lame in my opinion.... like they are going to remove a virus from a PC instead of kicking a**

I know. Thats what I said in my previous post. I just more variation with these shooters nowadays. Not just in the same time period all the time.
