Default Universal's Flipper Discs? I thought we left this behind with HD-DVD...

http://bluray.ign.com/articles/105/1050716p1.html

I thought it was bad enough that they started including DVDs...now the two sided discs is just pushing it, lol

I thought the flipper discs were pretty efficient, but on the other hand, why not get yourself a Blu-ray player if you want to watch Blu-ray movies for yourself.

I have no problem with it.. it's better for kids films, but still it's not a problem.

Including the DVD doesn't bother me at all. For whatever reason most of the 3 disc Disney Blu Rays I have that included a DVD version were $10 or less after promotions on release day.

Having the DVD, I can loan it to friends if I want too. (But I tell people to either sign up for or use Netflix.)

Now the flippers just bother me.

Lots of the things that helped sink HD DVDs ship have moved over to Blu and they usually bother me. Like the Picture in Picture stuff that brought along profile 1.1.

Wouldn't it be cheaper just to include a copy of the movie on a separate disc? Kind of like the way the digital copy discs are now. Why create a whole new medium that will only increase production costs? This doesn't make much sense.

You are correct. Yields on DVD-18 and any other 3+ layer discs are bad enough. While discs are inherently cheap, there's considerable savings using separate BD50 and DVD9 discs over a double sided BD59.

I'll try to pass on these hybrids. I hope they don't re-issue the boxset with those flipper discs.
