You guys ever seen a movie where in some way, the trailer mislead you, and it ended up being something totally different?
Here's some examples: Executive Decision: The trailer made it seem that Steven Segal was the main character Million Dollar Baby: The trailer made it seem like it was a pure boxing movie. |

Soldier with Kurt Russel, the trailer made it to look like a balls out epic action movie.
I think today's trend of trailers is that they show too damn much, that's really annoying like The Hangover, although a very funny movie I pretty much anticipated over half the funny stuff. |

I can't think of anything specific but I agree with this thread for the most part; the most common element is when a trailer shows a much higher ratio of action in a movie that ends up being full of dialogue and almost no action. However, I do like when a trailer misleads for a certain part of the movie so you don't know what to expect. |

Marley & Me....the trailer marketed it as a comedy. Ya, friggin har har.
Note to Hollywood, if you can't figure out how to create a trailer without resorting to portraying something that a movie clearly isn't, then I would suggest not making the damn movie in the first place! ![]() |

How about the trailer for Once. While I wouldn't call it misleading persay, if you could tell by watching the trailer what it was about, or what kind of film it was, well you're a better man than I. The trailer for The Ice Harvest on the other hand was completely misleading (advertised as an Harold Ramis film w/ the trailer showcasing 3 or 4 comedic beats in an otherwise very dark film.....calling it a black comedy would be generous).

To an extent, I think most trailers are mis-leading. Unless it's something you know about already and plan on seeing it (the movie) anyways, it's very easy to mis-interpret what is put out there.
I, personally, haven't really liked most movie trailers in some years. I think working in the theater business did that to me. Trailers started showing more and more and more. It almost came to a point that you could see the whole movie in those 2 to 2 1/2 MINUTES. Everything else was just filler. Trailers need to be taken with a big grain of salt. Or if it's something you plan on seeing anyways, resist temptation. Don't take the apple from the tree and bite it. Don't watch the trailers. Just wait for the movie to come out. I know it is easier said than done... |

I don't think there is any question that the most misleading trailer of the past decade is The Fountain. Advertising the film as a love story over 1000 years when it was anything but ruined the potential for many ppl to enjoy and understand the film.
