Default LA Gang Tours

Yes, you heard right; Gang Tours.
---
http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?se...les&id=7155464

Quote:
LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Would anyone really want to take a tour of gang turf?

One former gang member thinks so and he thinks his idea can help with the gang problem. But not everyone is happy about the idea.

The creator of LA Gang Tours is hoping to expand into notorious gang hot spots like the Westlake District, but for now the focus is on South Los Angeles.

South L.A. is where these tours will begin in January and is an area that has been hit hard by gang violence.

Alfred Lomas is the man behind LA Gang Tours. Lomas, a former gang member, says that the whole idea behind to his non-profit group is to create jobs and open the lines of communication between rival gangs.

Lomas says that he has already worked out a cease fire agreement between three of the largest and most dangerous gangs in Los Angeles. The agreement says that there will be no shooting between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., which is the same time tour buses will be passing through the area.

Critics say the idea of Gang Tours exploits the poor and is demeaning to the residents in these neighborhoods.

Lomas and the people standing behind his project say that it's a great way to empower the community.

"This is an non-profit organization, it's community based and we're creating jobs," Lomas said. "Our first priority is saving lives by getting the gang members to sit down and honor this first and foremost."

The tours are set to begin in January and are scheduled for two hours and costs $65.

Lomas says all of the money will be funneled back into the community and that his ultimate goal is to create micro-loans for inner-city entrepreneurs.
I love the part about the cease fire agreement.
But in all joking aside, its nice that he wants to help out the community with the money but I think there is an easier way. . .

I was raised in southeast Los Angeles.

I got out, a long time back.

The idea of a tour bus driving around, pointing at people who have no affiliation with criminals and psychopaths who kill indiscriminantly, is completely repellent. Whoever is doing this - obviously for a buck - is completely out of line.

Neighborhoods are not zoos, and citizens are not wild animals. These gangs of serial killers roaming the streets are a tiny percentage of the people who actually live there.

The concept is disgusting.

I would love to see the paperwork they have to fill out before going on this tour.

"We are not responsible if you are shot to death in a drive by, if you are kidnapped to be used as a sex slave, if you are pressed into service as a drug mule, etc."

I would hate to see their insurance premium per month though. "Lets see, your business takes people into gangland, hmmmm, okay, five hundred thousand per month premiums, ten thousand dollar deductible, and for every fatality your premium doubles."

I don't live in Cali, but from an outsider's perspective, maybe if they stopped acting like animals, they wouldn't be exploited like animals. I'll never understand the gang concept. Maybe because I was raised in Florida, we don't believe in gang warfare, we just run in crews and cliques but nothing organized like B's and C's. Murdering each other over which color is superior to the other....out and out stupidity.

A gang tour? Are you f-ing kidding me? It probably would be more interesting than It's A Small World, though.
