Default Replacement center channel speaker?

Hi folks. Looking to replace my center channel speaker. Any ideas? Looking around 100-150 bucks. Nothing crazy. Thanks.

Looked on Crutchfield. They have a lot in this range. I was looking at the Boston CS 225C. Would that be good? Don't know what to look for in a center channel speaker.

What are your fronts? It is best to timbre match the front sound stage.

Well, it should timbre-match your fronts....so what do you have as your fronts, what make and model?

Previously, you mentioned wanting to replace the Pioneer fronts. Is that still in the cards? I thought you got a lot of good suggestions, including my $45K B&W and Classe upgrade suggestion.

Anyway, There are Polk, Energy, Klipsch, B&W speakers that you can look at.

New and used speakers are both options that you can consider. Is there a space limitation that the speaker needs to fit? Some can get rather large.

Nah. Can't really afford to replace the fronts right now. The ones I have are performing pretty well I think so I'm going to keep them for a bit. Trying to work on the other pieces. Not in the 45K range
What do you think of those bostons I mentioned.

No specific size limitations I don't think. Just nothing super huge.

Here is the thing. You need to look at the long term here.

If you get the Boston center, are you going to want the Boston CS line fronts. Have you had a chance to listen to any speakers yet? That is going to tell you more than any specs you find online. Specs are nice to get an idea of performance, but your ears will tell you whether your taste in sound likes it or not.

For example, Klipsch looks really good on paper, but I do not like the sound of them. they are far too bright for my taste.

EDIT: It's sometimes hard to shop to a budget without haven listened to speakers. I would suggest you go listen and then find out what you like. If it is above your current budget, I would suggest waiting and saving.

A big +1 here.....have you listened to many other speakers, especially the Boston's?

I have not. I guess I should go listen. I usually like to buy stuff then return it if I dont like it in MY setup Maybe I will just have to do that.

I agree that once you get it home, it may sound different due to room treatments, etc. However, listening in a store will give you a general idea of how it will sound.
