Doesn't effect me, I never unplug my controller and my Vizio, which was free, still works fine over a year after I acquired it.

Yes. That's why there's that section in the user manual about how to change the battery and the obvious screws that hold it together on the back of the controller. And even if you can't open the controller, lithium-ion batteries last at least 2-3 years. How much is 2-3 years of LIVE? Oh yes. It's $100-150.

He calls the PS3 a lump of coal because the controller batter can die, but never does....

AND it has replacement batteries for like $10

My launch controller still works fine, and that's with thousands of hours of use...so even 3 years seems to be understated as a high end.

Yeah, but you're really supposed to change out your lithium ion batteries every 3 years or so, as well as let it empty every 30 charges. No one does either of those things, though.

What's the reason to change them out even if they still work?

The PS3 controller is rechargable....... you can charge it anytime with your PS3 USB cord.

Is it just me, or is this guy a dumbass?

As with all batteries, their maximum charge capacity deteriorates over time.

The unique thing about lithium batteries, though, is that they have no memory, so you can—and should—charge them before they are depleted. The only thing is that if you charge them when they are in use, the excess heat can cause condensation and damage the battery.

He's saying that if the battery in the controller dies, you have to buy a new controller, which is incorrect. They sell replacement batteries, and as Septimus pointed out, the manual tells you how to replace them

Its actually a woman named Anne who wrote the article. Not that she isnt smart but she sounds like she is limited in her knowledge of electronics.

Next thing you know, she says you can't replace the hard drive for your PS3 Slim.

I've three SixAxis controllers and 2 Dual Shock 3s. All of them still work (had a 4th SixAxis that I gave away as a gift to a relative who bought a PS3 a while back after I bought my first DS3).

So her whole scrooge article is based on if items break? Glad I don't live in her house.

Husband - "Honey I just bought us a new toaster for $15!"

Anne - "What! What! What?? Do you know that after 2 years the heating element is going to snap and have you seen how much it costs to replace it!? $50!!! That is just for the coil. Add in the springs, the housing, the lever and the timer and you are at $498."

Husband - "If it breaks we'll buy a new one. It is only $15."

Anne - "GET IT OUT OF THIS HOUSE!"

Husband - "I also bought you a bedroom toy....."

I'm not sure about five things I don't want for Christmas, but one of them is a subscription to that magazine.

It's been how long since these systems came out? Get over it.

This article is obviously written by someone who wears a bib when they write. When a Vizio breaks? I'm pretty sure all TV's can break.
