The Great Escape on Blu-ray ?

when is this movie coming to blu-ray. I have been holding on for so long not to buy the dvd version, but this movie is very good and I want it on blu-ray. Im talking about the one with Steve Mqeueen

I'm hoping for a release similar to that of Gone with the Wind & The Wizard of Oz. Hopefully this film is in the works; it is one of my all-time favorites.

Yes, we don't seem to have had many Blu-ray announcements from MGM recently. Is there any particular reason why they've apparently gone quiet?

Probably because MGM is fighting bankruptcy.

Bogo5, Very cool avatar. Shane is one of my all time favorite films. As far as The Great Escape. Outstanding movie which needs a Blu Ray release.

I contacted Universal films about this very subject and they said "not confirmed" but pretty much it was a go in 2013 the 50 year anniversary the great escape will be released on blu-ray. It will come with an extra blu-ray or DVD on the real facts of the great escape and I think some kind of book.

There are a lot of great movies that need to be seriously restored and brought across to Blu-Ray including:
The Great Escape
The Great Gatsby
The Great Race
to name but a few potential catalogue releases needing attention from various movie studios.

Why would this come from Universal? It's a United Artists film owned by MGM?

No, it's just a place-holder for when does come out; you sign up to get an e-mail for Amazon so you know that it's up for pre-order. However I wouldn't get too exicited because there are hundreds of these on Amazon where there is no absolute sign of a release; on HMV they have the same for many of the Disney Classics such as Tarzan, Peter Pan, The Rescuers, etc, which clearly have no announcement as such for any of the titles.

So sorry, it's just there for when a Blu-ray does come around.

The Great Escape has a 50th Anniversary coming up in 2013. That's going to be a long wait. But worth it.
