Default Official Blade Runner/Lucasfilm news!!

I know a lot of people are excited about Blade Runner, and The Digital Bits just posted up the official press release for all the different versions, plus an interesting tidbit regarding a "surprise announcement" for an upcoming DVD release from Lucasfilm. Check out the link.

Hey George, Stephen is releasing Close Encounters 30th anniversary edition on Blu-ray.

What other big sci-fi film was released in 1977? Hmmm.

HINT HINT HINT!

I really can't imagine what else it would be other than the "Mega-Ultimate OMG LOLZROFL Electric Boogaloo 30th Anniversary" box set that has been rumored for awhile. Except for an HD release, Indiana Jones is kind of stagnant right now . . . and yeah, that's about it.

I could not have said it better myself... Lucas has really kept this underwraps if he does realease a Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious edition... yes it is spelled correctly....

if this is true, then the war is over in my opinion. star wars is one of the few movies that alone will move players, in fact i would say that star wars will move players more than any other movie ever. (not looking to get into sw:lotr battle)

One things for sure, that Deckard Briefcase edition is going to be pricey.

Good to see the BD versions are the Complete and Ultimate ("Deckard Briefcase") editions.

I doubt it'll be an HD release . . . although, Spielberg IS putting out Close Encounters . . . maybe he convinced his buddy to see the light.

Yeah it happened like this:

Spielberg: Hey George, I'm coming over. I've got Close Encounters on blu-ray, you really have to see this man.

Lucas: Okay, I got popcorn and beer!

An hour later, Steve and George are settling in George's massive theater at Skywalker Ranch.

Lucas: So what is this blu-ray I've been hearing so much about?

Spielberg: It's the ultimate in high definition that'll make your movies look and sound out of this world.

Lucas: Well shit man, what are you waiting for then? Push play already.

Spielberg and Lucas sit through the entire feature in silence, completely mesmerized by the crisp 1080p picture. By the end their ears are ringing, but they turn to each other wearing wide smiles.

Lucas: You know, $teve, maybe you were right. I think my $ix little movie$ would look pretty on blu-ray. I'm going to relea$e them all before Chri$tma$ and keep all my fan$ happy, and $ingle handedly end thi$ format war once and for all!

Spielberg: Yay, let'$ build bigger vault$!!!!

LOL I'm just messing around. I think I need some sleep!!

Just don't all start crying about how Lucas raped your childhood when it's announced as Standard DVD only. I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see Star Wars appearing on HD this year, maybe in a couple of years time.

Lucas knows all about BR, he's been waiting for HD, and was even going to skip standard DVD for it.

I found the quotes from Rick M. to be a bit disturbing; "If no winner emerges the company will skip hi-def disc and only offer it in HD via download". Come on Rick, no one wants that. The Micro$haft FUD machine is quite infectious; that's why I'm set on fighting it.

Ok, so the big announcement if you missed it wasn't anything about Star Wars. It was that there will be a Lego Indiana Jones video game coming out next year. While not as exciting to many as a Star Wars announcement, I'll take anything Indy over Star Wars any day, so I'm pretty excited about it. If you want to check it out, hit the link below. I'm assuming we'll see a PS3 release since it's '08, and there should be another PS3 exclusive (last I heard) Jones game coming out around the time of the movie.

I dunno...I mean the newer SW films I, II and III were garbage to me....

I still like the older ones...and I like the Indiana Jones films just as much...
