Default Defective Samsung BD-P1500

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone had the same problem as I have right now.

I purchased this unit for my father in June 2009.

Recently, when my dad powers on the blu-ray player, it doesn't show anything on the TV screen...no samsung symbol or anything. It won't read a regular DVD or even a blu-ray. It's definitely not the TV and we've tried switching out HDMI cables as well. No luck

Should I try to update the firmware? Will this help?

I tried calling customer support and while i'm still under warranty for parts, i'm out of warranty for labor and they want $90 to fix it. This is not an option as I purchased the player for $150.

Am I out of luck here? Thanks guys

Sounds like a bum deal. If it is $90 to fix, I would look into a Sony BDP-S360, which can be had for around $130.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Samsuck!

Worst customer service in the industry!

Yes, try to update the software, but you are on your own if that doesn't work. With excellent, well priced, players on the market from Sony, Panasonic (and of course OPPO ) and others, why would anyone buy fSamsung

I have a sammy 1500 with no problems and had it for a year. Have you checked the input settings in your TV set and connections?

Yes, I bought the 1500 for my mother a while back (before I knew better about Samsung) and the same thing happened. It was the HDMI port that crapped out in this case. I hooked it up via component and optical and it works fine enough for her. If you replace it, do yourself a favor and get a Sony.

I have had a Samsung BD P1500 for 10 months, with a lot of annoying problems, like not playing some discs, dispite firmware updates. Now with the new updated firmware version 2.5, I often have no audio! Does anyone know how to fix this.

My Samsung 1400 stopped playing regular DVD's after four months and I took it back to Costco for a refund. I stopped buying Samsung BD players for this reason, and stopped buying Sony players after my PS3's HDMI output stopped working.

Not to put too fine of a point on it, to h3ll with them.

My sammy bd1500 was working fine untill a few hrs ago when I decided to update my firmwire. I left the room to make some food as it was taking forever. Once I returned the screen was blue. The player was on but the screen was blue no logo no menu nothing. It now wont play any dvds, or blus. All it says is load on the front faceplate. It wont even open the tray unless I turn the player on by pressing the edject button not power. Once it powers up it shows the logo for a few seconds but as soon as it begins to load it goes back to blue.

Has anyone found a fix for this yet?

unlucky that happen pretty often with samsung.
Just check the official forum that is HERE to see how many people got the same problem. You can try to ask straight there, but up for now there is no real solution except try the reset procedure or try to leave it unpower for a few days and then retry..

A couple of Xmas ago my wife bought me the 1400 (?). Four months into owning it the player would not play regular DVDs. It continued to play BDs, but that is all. I upgraded the firmware like many people suggested, but that did not resolve the problem. Haven bought it from Costco, I returned it and got a Sony S350.

Now, I am not recommending a Sony, either. Before the Samsung/Sony S350 I bought a 60GB PS3 and after the Samsung/Son S350 and a PS3 Slim purchase, the original PS3 stopped outputting on HDMI. I just replaced it with a Panasonic BD605K.

Its hard to imagine that I've purchased five (5) BD players in 2.5 years time and two (2) of them have failed. That is a 40% failure rate.
