I stopped at the Sony Style store today to take a final look at the ES-1000 HTIB setup b4 i purchased it and 2 sales associates were talking about the TV. After a few minutes of conversation, its apparent that the TV will no longer be getting delivered there, and they are phasing it out. Im told that the XBR8 technology will be used again and the XBR12 is going to surpass the technology and quality of the XBR8...
Can anyone confirm this information? |

At CES Sony will announce the XBR12 which will use LED's for each primary color and be 240Hz. The XBR12 will be offered in 40", 46", 52" & 60" and there is the possibility of a 32" model. The replacement for the V series will come out in January/February. If anyone wants a KDL40XBR9 they better decide soon since that is EOL (end of life), though the replacement will not be out until May.

I wonder what the replacement will be for the V series? Just an upgrade again or what? Trust me my tv aint going anywhere soon but I am just curious what Sony is gonna do with the V series or if they will phase it out all together? Man technology is hard to keep up with! lol |

This is actually good news if it happens and is affordable. The XBR 8 series was the closest thing to the quality of a Kuro offered by any LCD product and Sony has gone downhill with their LCD products released after the XBR 8. Hopefully the XBR12 series will support 3D and will offer killer blacks for a reasonable price. Finally, it would be idea if Sony will build-in support for ISF calibration.
Wish list summary: Deep blacks Supports ISF calibration No motion blur Affordable Is this too much to ask? |

Sony has to do something. They are getting their butts kicked by these up and coming LED/Plasma sets that are extremely affordable, yet comparable in quality.
I see it this way, they may offer some of the best pictures out there, but the prices reflect a smaller group vs companies like Sammy, and Panny who attract more buyers bc of the price range. The XBR10 is WAY OVERPRICED and does not impress me at all for PQ or sound.. I have seen 3 in person and various BD's in it and I am GLAD i didnt fork out the extra $3000.00 over my (NON BUZZING) 50" 850 series samsung. I cannot wait for the XBR12 though, and can only hope sony starts publishing information so I can put it on my wedding registry!!! ![]() |

I don't get it...you really think Sony is going to release the XBR11 and the XBR12 within the first half of 2010? I don't think they ever released two lines in the same year before, have they? If I'm correct, why would they do it now?
I'm not surprised the XBR10 is being discontinued. The separate box and sending wireless to the monitor doesn't really make sense to me as long as you have to still have the power cable. It's just one more (HDMI) cable. I hope the XBR11/12 isn't going to work that way. I was about to trigger a buy on a Pioneer monitor, but I was a little concerned about not having a tuner, in case I decide to drop cable. Then I thought I'd wait to see what happened at CES, even though it's unlikely I'd want to pay initial release prices for a new set. If Sony releases something exciting at CES (like a reasonably priced triilluminous), I'd probably bite for it once prices dropped a bit. Or, since XBR9 prices seem to be finally dropping to reasonable levels (I predict $1800 for the 52" by January and $1500 by March), maybe I'll bite, but I am not impressed by that set and I know I'll regret it later. Or maybe a miracle will happen and Pioneer will get back into the business. Stranger things have happened. Although that wouldn't happen until at least January 2011 or we'd know about it already. |

Sony releases multiple lines every year the xbr2/3 in 2006. The xbr4/5 in 2007. The xbr6/7/8 in 2008 and finally the xbr9/10 in 2009. 2010 will see the xbr11/12 in 60 inches finally and hopefully for less then $10,000. Let's not forget the xbr8 70 inch was and still is $20,000.

Sony's pricing is killing me when it comes to the XBR series. I was after a XBR8 (it was on my short list of sets to buy). Once the price was below $4K CND, all that's left are the demo models or dealers who are holding on to new stock like the worlds going to end and want full list.
I got to take a look at the XBR 10 in the Sony Style showroom and from what I had seen it looked nice... |
