11 units of Dublin Fire Brigade and three aerial fire fighting vehicles are attending a fire at the Guinness site at St James's Gate in Dublin.

A fire broke out at the lower end of the brewery near the Victoria Quay entrance at 12.10pm this afternoon.

A Guinness spokesperson confirmed that routine repair work was being carried out on a roof of a building, which is believed to have been partially made of felt.

It is thought that this is where the fire broke out.

The area in question was not in regular use and was successfully evacuated.

No injuries have been reported and Diageo says production is continuing elsewhere on the site.

The Luas Red line has been disrupted as efforts to contain the fire continue. There is no Luas service between Blackhorse and Smithfield, according to AA Roadwatch.

A spokesperson for Diageo says that the fumes from burning tar and felt are creating a lot of smoke in the area.

Anyone in the vicinity of the brewery is warned to remain indoors and keep windows closed because of potential contaminants in the smoke.
