Default So how does an actor go from zero to...

a starring role in 3 blockbusters!? Terminator Salvation, Avatar and Clash of the Titans.

I've not seen or heard of Sam Worthington until Salvation. I just checked out his filmography on imdb...he hasn't done much. Now...he's got these 3 movies on his resume!

What happened?

He started in Australia and has worked his way to hollywood stardom. He probably has a very good agent and his work in Australia is likely some top notch stuff as he has won various awards in Australia for his works. His rise is no more shocking than that of Hugh Jackman, also Australian, when he was cast as Wolverine when he was a noone in Hollywood.

Don't forget that he was almost cast as James Bond before Craig got the part.

I would attribute Worthington's meteoric rise to the top due to Jim Cameron's recommendations. Cameron suggested Worthington for the role in T4 after he enjoyed working with Sam in Avatar. Things snowballed from there and now I guess he's the next big action star.

I was very impressed with him in Terminator Salvation. I'm looking forward to seeing Avatar and Clash of the Titans.

I didn't know this, but now that I do I'll always wonder how he would have done with the role (not that I'm disappointed with Dainel Craig).

Heard he was also a contender to play Mad Max in Fury Road, but they cast Tom Hardy (Star Trek Nemesis) instead.

I was surprised to see how tiny he is in real life. Andy Ricter on the Tonight Show looked like he had at least 6 inches on him. Not that surprised I guess, look at Mel Gibson.

That's cuz he's 5'10" and Andy is 6'2"

They made Meryl Streep, who's 5'6", look 6'2" in Julie & Julia... lots of tall shoes and apple boxes.

After seeing him in T-S, I am looking forward to seeing him in many more roles. He is a very engaging actor to watch.

I think he's a pretty good actor so I'm not all thinking he doesn't deserve it, but I just saw the Clash of the Titans trailer, and have already seen Salvation and Avatar...so I was like what!? Another huge movie? Who is this guy!?

This has happened a few times recently. Examples: Sam Worthington, Shia Labeouf, Christian Bale (post Batman Begins, I know he was in earlier films, but he was not as sought after since this)

I first seen him in a crocodile film called Rogue I think it was a couple years back, didn't think anything of it though in terms of him becoming really big.

I saw that. One of those movies that you go into expecting to be awful, but it turned out to be really quite good. Good acting, good directing, decent effects, suspenseful plot. Just an all around good movie. I've seen it called the Jaws of killer croc/gator movies, and I actually agree with that statement. Definitely worth a look.

And yeah, I'm with everyone else saying Sam Worthington deserves his new-found fame. I'm a Bale fan, but Sam stole Terminator right out form under him. Great, likable actor.
