Default Blu-ray DVDs, Blue-ray on the Home page?

Why do we have now such a message on the front page

Blu-ray Movies, Players, Reviews, Blu-ray DVDs, Blue-ray, BDs

I thought we were the #1 authority and experts when it comes to blu-ray. Now we using improper terms and refering to blu-ray as DVDs and even putting a "E" in blu like ignorants.

Please tell me it is a joke because it is ridiculous. We are supposed to educate the population and that includes using the proper terminology.

Please blu-ray.com do not loose your credibility and professionalism.

Maybe it is just me but it bugs me a lot when I see that or read for example Ultimate Electronics advertising blu-ray DVD players. I'm sure I'm not the only one though.

My guess would be for search engine purposes.

Yeah I noticed this too. Hopefully it will be quickly corrected. There is no reason to embrace terms that don't exist or non-sensical word combinations.

The site administrators put those terms on the Home page to attract new people who find the site by searching incorrect terms.

I looked at the site source, and those terms -- and more -- also are in the site's meta data. So, it's not an error on the part of the people running the site. It's a decision to use those terms since search result analysis has shown many people use them when searching on Google, Yahoo!, Bing, etc.

AKA, a business decision, and a good one at that. Although I'm bias, being in online media/journalism. All I'm saying, is I can see where they're coming from.

Search Google for "blue-ray" and see what site pops up first. Search Google for "blu-ray dvd" and see what site pops up first.

Ah, yes. Smart decision, in my book.

i can also concur with skatalites analysis on this, in lieu of people now finally coming around to purchasing blu-ray media and components, its a good way to catch even those who arent aware of the proper spelling.

on a side note, some websites have different administrators who monitor the main website, and/or a separate group for the forums.

ive also pm'ed the current mod leaders on board, hoping it goes through the proper channel if needed.

Does it have to be on the main page? Can't it be put somewhere else and still be tagged for search purposes?

It can be, sure. That's what meta data is for. And that's what Headline data is for.

For instance, view the Home page and look at the top bar of your browser's window. You'll read the following: Blu-ray.com - Blu-ray Movies, Players, Reviews, Blu-ray DVDs, Blue-ray, BDs. Headline and meta data are key in gaining Google, Yahoo!, Bing, etc. search results/hits. So, it doesn't have to be on the Home page itself. In my opinion. I know people who would disagree with me.

mikejet is right, it's for those idiots who think Blu-ray is spelled the same as the colored laser beam its name derives from.

However, if I need to nitpick... Blu-ray is always spelled with a capital B, so you need to watch yourself seigneur_rayden.

Off topic: to see how people will (d)evolve, you must go and see Idiocracy, it's hilarious but in some ways already true for some people.

Oops, my bad! That code wasn't supposed to go live in its current form

We're doing our best to educate people about the correct spelling and abbreviation:
https://www.blu-ray.com/faq/#bluray_name

But it's a double-edged sword. How are we supposed to educate these people if they aren't able to get to the site in the first place?

If the reason is for search or hit purpose; it is fine for me as long as it does not show up as it was earlier.

Ah, gotcha. Didn't even notice that. I bet it's for people who don't know the correct spelling and whatnot.

My guess, Search Engines...
People cant find the site and get information if they dont get any results. You would be very surprised the number of new members who start threads in the Newbie section who spell it Blue-ray.
