Correct.
Try it in IMAX-3D first and make sure that you sit in the middle of the second to last row. And make sure that you get there at least a half hour early before that aisle fills up. And then for your expected repeated viewings try Real-3D also. ![]() . |

Well, most IMAX screens in commercial cineplexes, like with AMC, are the smaller digital projection type. They're both digital projection, one's just projected onto a larger screen with a more powerful sound system.

They're not exactly the same. You can see for yourself by taking a pair of RealD glasses into an IMAX 3D movie (or vice versa).
RealD is the newer (and better) 3D technology, but the size and sound of an IMAX theater seems to be the best way to get immersed in the movie, even if the 3D effect is not as good. |

Generally, you won't notice any visual differences between the two. However, they are slightly different in terms of projection.
Most IMAX 3D theaters use linear polarization, which means if you tilt your head enough, you'll see a double image. RealD 3D uses circular polarization, which does not suffer from the double image if you tilt your head. Most IMAX theaters are larger than RealD theaters. However, some theater chains such as Cinemark have created large-format screens (Cinemark XD) that use RealD for 3D projection and are similar in size to the smaller IMAX Multiplex screens. |
