Is my PS3 dying?

Over the past few months I've had some weird technical issues with several games, but only these specific games, everything else works perfectly fine.

In inFamous and Motorstorm Pacific Rift there were weird lines that would come out of objects in the game, for example in inFamous where ever there were a stack of barrels black lines would jet out from the edges of the barrels and continue on like a horizon line, same as in Pacific Rift.

Red Faction Guerilla and God of War Collection just keep freezing on me whenever I get to the same point. The game will stutter once, then freeze, but the music keeps going, and then it won't even let me go back to the XMB, I have to manually turn of the console itself.

Then last night in the new LBP Pirates level after I got the two coins for the pirate with one eye these giant triangles would pop up and jet around covering like 80% of the screen. The triangles kind of looked liked when there's glass or ice in front of Sackboy, but it was jittery and over almost the whole screen.

Has anyone heard of any of these problems or know what it might mean? I'm using a 60GB I've had since laungh. Sorry for the long talky post but thanks in advance!

The lines coming out of the objects sounds like a graphics issue...I'm not the best at knowing names of the stuff or what not...But the issue would be something that you could live with or if not would probably have to be sent in to get fixed. I had this same problem a while ago...On uncharted it played fine..and resistance....BUT on resident evil 5...and resistance 2...and motorstorm 2...i had lines coming out of the characters which i could still play the game but it sucked looking at the lines. What i did...Sold it on craigslist...when they came to see if it worked...i put in a game that didnt do the lines...they paid me and i went and bought a new slim...(had the 80 gb)

Either which way you go...I think the problem is there to stay in certain games due to a problem with your graphics card or whatever it is in the ps3 that does that...and you can still play the games...but you will always get those lines....If you sell it or what not you will keep your trophies but if you dont back up the hard drive you lose your game saves so keep that in mind...Since your ps3 is still working back up the game saves soon as ya can if you need them.the other problems you talk about i havent experiences but anything that isnt normal of course is a bad thing...Hope this helps.

Sounds like the GPU is artifacting. Do you see a lot of purple or green triangles all over the screen?

go to safe mode and go to restore file

I made a thread about this same issue maybe a week or two ago. I learned it's called artifacting (which a guy above mentioned), and is probably a sign that the graphics card is on its way out.

I was holding out hope that it was related to my limited HDD space (I had about 100mb left). In the last few days I've deleted a lot of stuff (drum videos, the MAG beta, some game data caches for rentals I mailed back to GameFly, etc), so I've freed up about 10gb of space.

I'm not sure if it's helped anything, because the only game I've played in the last week is MW2, and that never had any problems. I noticed the problems in Assassin's Creed 2 and Lego Rock Band, but have yet to go back to them since clearing up all the space.

Well if it helps any the guy that bought it off me worked for amazon and was buying it to sell on amazon...lol probably doesnt help

I don't see any triangles specifically, just these black lines coming out of objects or the game freezing.

I'll try the safe mode trouble shooting stuff, thanks much everyone

I agree.. That is pretty shaddy to sell someone something like a PS3 without telling them about this issue.
