Default how many award will Avatar going to steal from District 9?

I remember the first time i watch district 9. I was in awe, this was it, the best sci-fi of 2009. From the story to the tech, it was stunning an on such a small budget.

i watched Avatar last night in IMAX 3D ...

Jame effin Cameron is at his best! I still can't believe the world him and his team created in Pandora. To make it short, this is the best movie i have EVER seen.

back to the question, i think District 9 will get rob this year. i wish they would both win =| what do u think?

Can't really compare the two. I liked District 9 a lot, but Avatar is in a different class. For one, Avatar will be nominated for Best Picture...don't think District 9 will get there.

The only film I really want to get nominated for best picture is UP, but is all three these movies get nominated, then my top 3 of the year will be oscar nominees. Which looks good on my movie fan CV

I agree that Up is fantastic and should get a nomination, but Avatar should be considered. Sure the acting performances are not Oscar material, but the movie advances filmaking. Avatar brought something new, innovative and that deserves recognition.

Best Picture has to go to Inglourious Basterds.

I see Avatar winning a few technical awards and maybe a plum like Best Director.

I love District 9 but I don't see it as attracting much attention from the academy awards.

And I have no influence with the academy, so my guesses mean absolutely nothing.

But best picture?

If the performances aren't Oscar worthy, then the movie itself should NOT be nominated IMO.

That's like arguing that Michael Bay's next movie should get nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture because he found a way to blow up most of the State of Nevada and catch it on film.

It's something never seen before on film, nobody will ever duplicate it, and it technically advances movie making as he would have done something so eye-catchingly stunning that will never ever be repeated on film...

Is Up eligible for Best Picture? Or do the rules not allow it to be in Best Animated and Best Picture?

Well, considering the budget for D9 is around 10% of Avatar's budget, I would except Avatar to do better in the FX and other technical categories.

Don't think Avatar will accomplish what Titanic did for James Cameron. I am thinking best Graphics, soundtrack maybe, and maybe Best Director (Highly doubt the later though).

What awards are we talking about, because I can't imagine District 9 is going to get much Oscar consideration, much less a chance at winning.

Remember Logan', TEN Movies will get Best Picture nominations this year (a Stupid change at the Oscards IMO) so I'm 100% sure this will be one of them. I'd LOVE to see Quentin's I.B. get a Best Picture nod as well. As for the acting, many many people have commented (myself as well) about the great job we all thought Zoe Saldana did in her lead role as Neytiri. Remember, it's Motion Capture, Not animating the characters. It's their Face, their eyes, their voice, etc. Sam Worthington was pretty good as well. Sigourney W. was okay enough, not great but decent. Colonel Quaritch (Stephen Lang), the Marine dude, was Pretty intense & had some very cool scenes overall, cheesy lines or not, most have commented about him & his stealing some scenes. Not sure if it can get Best Make-Up, but Art Direction, Sound, Sound EFX Editing, Picture, Director, Visual Effects (<--a Lock to win easily IMHO) should or could get nominations I would think.

Btw, 3 hours til' viewing # 2 in "Real D 3D" ( )

Director maybe... but Picture? I highly doubt it'll even get nominated, and if it does, it won't win if it's up against IB.

I'd like to see Saldana get some recognition for her role. Doubtful from the Academy though, but hopefully she gets SOMETHING.

Cameron may get a Director nod from them, but it is probably a long shot.

Picture, mayybe. But probably not, and even if it does it won't win, it won't even get close to winning.

Pixar campaigned Wall-e for a best picture award last year, and I would believe they are trying to this year as well

Yes, but is it actually eligible to be in both categories?

I don't know about both Categories, but Crouching Tiger got nominated for both forien film and best film, so I can't see it not getting nominated
