Default People with HDTV stubborn to convert to Blu-ray, why??

Ok I can't figure where you guys have general discussions regarding blu-ray. Please move it if you feel you don't like where it is. Apology in advance.

Anyways, I still don't understand why many people are very reluctant to convert to Blu-Ray. I would understand during the time there was a format war, and players were still $599, but time's have drastically changed.

In my common research, the price of Blu-Ray players have drastically come down and are at the SAME price level as new DVD players just 3 years ago. I can find Samsung blu-ray players here for just $99

In addition, the price gap of blu-ray discs are within a couple dollars more , but much of the time I've seen Blu-rays go for LESS than the dvds! IN fact, I save quite a deal on "Like new" on Amazon and got many of my blu-rays for $8! Even brand new blu's are $10 most of the time now.

I told people that you don't have to sit and convert every one of your DVD's to blu-ray right away (Cause thats what they seem to insist?) But I'm like, what you're never going to buy a new movie? Just whenever you buy a new movie, get it on Blu. You and your $3000 HDTV will THANK YOU.

Quotes -All of these quotes i filtered from people who DO HAVE HDTVs!:

The most interesting is the one with my sister, who has a home theatre room and $12,500 worth of equipment all in High def material.

I don't want to convert my whole collection to Blu-Ray. I have 450 dvds. What am I going to do? (36 year old sister)

I have a $1500 THX certified dVD player. I'm not about to buy another blu-ray player and I don't have $3000 to spend.

I don't like blu-ray (13 year old female)

I really don’t care. I just got used to DVD and here comes Blu-Ray. DVDs have barely been available and affordable to the public for a sufficient amount of time and now I have to cough up extra to have better quality with Blu-Ray?
-____- (15? year old female)

I'm fine with DVD (24 year old male)

Whats the big difference anyways? (20 year old male)

I hate Sony (23 year old female)

Sony sucks (20 year old male)

The movie makers steal from us. I'd rather just download (18 year old male)

I don't understand why people are becoming stubborn and very defensive, like i stepped on their cat or something when I mention blu-ray? Its like they become little children, possessed like I'm giving them medicine.

Tell me what you guys think! Any solutions?

A lot of my discussions about Blu-ray are within my blogs

You're in the wrong club.
You'll never find anyone like that in this forum.

What they need is some convincing.
Just bring your Blu-ray player to their house, pop in a really good demo disc and just let the images and sound wow them.

Even better is if you can get them to see a side by side demonstration. DVD on one TV and Blu on the other.

My mom's friend supposedly has a 40+" LCD, and doesn't understand the benefit of Blu-ray.

She's probably at the top of my list of people that need to come over to our house and experience Blu-ray, since she already has the TV. My uncle is probably second, as he loves Master and Commander.

I agree, but I think they act stubborn because they would really like it, but don't want their DVD collections to be absolete..!

What the guy said about movie companies stealing from us just kinda pisses me off! They spend millions of dollars to make sure there are movies for everyone.. I know they make lots of money, but personally I have no regrets paying money to have the movies I want!.. He doesnt have to buy every movie!

Why? Because people like that don't know how to use it. They just stand there and stare at the tv and say,"I don't see any difference". They've probably never heard of blu-ray, thats my guess.

Also, people believe digital downloads are going to invade physical media :Coughs bull****:

I hear this alot. Of course they can't ever give a good explanation of what the studios are "stealing". And they usually download from The Pirate Bay. These are the same people who haven't bought a CD in a decade, but have a HDD full of music. You know, because the music studios are "stealing" from them.

Ya...people are dumb. I know many people who do not have BD players but have huge HD tv's and play DVD's on them. Stupid. Then again...If I keep pressuring them to get a BD player then they'll ask me to borrow my BD's...

Some people are just stubborn, its all. If they ever saw a side by side difference, they'd have no choice but to convert. Also, alot of people are just cheap. That's it. Cheap as hell. They'll hold on to their DVD's for as long as they can, much like they did with VHS tapes until they became obsolete and had no option but to move into the digital world. Sucks. But hey. Their loss.

this kills me though

Cool. Its great that when I make a thread, people actually reply
I was hoping it wasn't a sleeper thread or something.

Funny, you have my Mom in one corner stuck with VCRS and occasional DVD, and my sister who's stuck on purely DVD.

I think the main issue with people is that, Blu Ray is not a root cause. I think the root cause is FEAR OF CHANGE. - point made by Nielsb90

Next point up is "IGNORANCE is Bliss syndrome"
Some of you tell me to do a side by side comparison between Blu and DVD.
Well, if those people won't look at a big bold JPG ,which is the same one posted here about Blu being cheaper, and the next hour complain that Blu is still expensive. The later in the electronics store pretend the Blu on HDTV looks the same as DVD.
So then how would I be doing a side by side comparison actually work out? These people don't want to know. It seems pointless. The exception might be a few people I have in mind.

What really is annoying is younger than me, in their 20's are absolutely horrible at using computers. I can't tell you how many times people ask me how to use WINZIP or WInrar and what its purpose is for. I'd go write a tutorial , and later they still wouldn't get it.This attitude also then leaks unto any new technology out there and seems to reject it. The same exact people are the ones who still don't know the difference between DVD and Blu ray.

Its ok if old people don't want to convert, I get that. They are stuck in their ways and about to pass on to the afterlife. But whats the deal with guys/girls who're young?

Well sorry for the rant. XD Time to watch DIE hard on BLU RAY for Christmas.

Merry Christmas, Guys

EVENTUALLY is the key word. As time progresses and moves forward more people adopt the new format. The only reason I think many aren't adopting Bluray currently is because of the fear of the economy. They would rather save up money for the necessity rather than privilege.

Blu-Rays aren't really cheap either. Most places, at least around here are trying to sell them for between $23 and $30. Granted Amazon, and sometimes Wal-Mart have them for good prices.
