Default OK to leave sub on all the time?

HI folks. Just got a new sub and I'm wondering if it is okay to leave on all the time. My last sub had an AUTO selection so I never worried about it but this one doesn't. Thanks.

I don't think it's critical to turn your sub on and off, but I would not leave my sub on all of the time.

mine is on always. i dont think it will hurt it considering mine has been on for like 5 years except when moving or adjusting it.

Mine is always "on" also (really standby) unless, 1) I am going to be gone for several days, or 2) there bad storms in the area (the best surge protector is a pulled plug). I see no reason to turn it off otherwise, the power required to keep it in a standby mode is nearly nothing (although I have not measured it).

Same here no wonder it’s when you read thread saying (my sub died last night).

Then you read that the owner had it switched ON (24/7).

The most I have had mine on for is 2 days, while, I was sleeping. Now that doesn’t make sense. I’ve always been against leaving anything ON draining a few watts on standby.

I have friend that keeps his on standby yet its no more than simple lean down and switch it OFF! He’s sub always bottoms out on The Matrix LOL.

An active sub is just like any other amplifier! You turn it OFF afterwards!

Most subs go into standby mode on their own, so there is nothing wrong with leaving them 'on' all the time.

Today I e-mailed a note to SVS regarding on or off. I was amazed that they were at the office on a Saturday the day after Christmas but here is their reply...

It's easiest on the amp to leave it in "Auto" or "On". The on/off cycle is always harder on electronics than a stable operating temperature for which the amp was designed, so there's no real need to shut it off completely save for long periods of non-use.

Yeah my subs are on auto mode, I was considering stand by an equivalent to off.

My SVS has been on for more than 6 years except when I go on extended vacations which is rare.

Auto mode for my sub. I have heard (or shall I say, not heard) the momentary time before it kicks on - after I begin playing material if my system has been left idling for a little while (although that is a rare thing - I generally power down all components when not in use, save for my sub's Auto mode, and my BD player's "quick start" mode).
