Why is this movie listed for a 31 July release date and I just picked up a BD copy at Best Buy yesterday? I'm confused. Haven't watched it yet so no reviews avail from me.

Yeah, that's the only logical answer to why it was on the shelf.

I just watched it. PQ was great to me. Only the 3rd BD movie I've watched. Picture was pretty awesome during the scenes in the snow on the mountains.

Audio options were limited to only DD 5.1. I've been spoiled by the uncompressed PCM options with Apocalypto and Ghost Rider. Audio was OK, wasn't much of a workout for the surround speakers at all. I'd say 99% of the movie was center and front channels.

Aswesome storyline, plot, and acting. Kinda reminded my of the fugitive and Sentinel. I'd say its a good add to any collection.

Another thing I noticed with the Shooter BD was the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. I guess I was wrong to assume that this new higher level of DVD technology would only produce movies that fill up the entire screen with that awesome Blu-ray picture. Sucks that they don't.

Most digital video formats will have the black bars. Movies that are 2.35 or 2.40:1 will have the black bars on the top and bottom of the image, which is what most films are shot in that are in theaters. A movie that is shot in 1.85:1 will fill the entire screen. Right now the only way to watch a movie in 2.35 or 2.40:1 without the black bars is to get a high end front projector and a screen. So, even though a Blu Ray disc is in high def the bars will remain the same.

That says a lot when you compare the PQ to Apocalypto and Ghost Rider. I may have to get over myself and pony up for this movie. I am holding out because of the crap audio options.

Maybe we can bold the black bars sticky, make it a triple size font....

Darkpoet25, thanks for explaining aspect ratio to me and not whinning/complaining about my question.

I guess some folks feel that because they know about a certain subject, everyone else is also supposed to know it too? How childish is that?

From now on I'll pay attention when purchasing a BD and look for the 1.85:1 Hopefully 300 and the other big titles are shot in that aspect ratio.

Most "big" movies are shot in the wider aspect ratio . . . including 300. I haven't counted, but I'm pretty sure 2.35/2.41 releases outnumber 1.85/1.78. If you like movies, you better get used to it, cuz it's not changing.
