I am fairly new to the Blu-ray world and am using a PS3 for a Blu-ray player. I just sold my HD DVD player as it pissed me off that once you hit STOP you lost your place in the movie.
Can any Blu-ray players remember where you left off last when you resume a movie especially for more than one disc like on a SD DVD player. Let me know as now that I sold my HD DVD player I am looking to possibly get a stand-alone player for Blu-ray and SD DVD instead of the PS3. |

They will remember your spots as long as you don't shut it off. At least the BDP-S1 will and the PS3 will. I think the BDP-S1 will remember even if you shut it off, but don't quote me on that. I too have an HD-DVD player, you can't even go into the setup menu without the thing freaken restarting the disc, or even change the resolution or any of that. It's horrible.

To my knowledge, any Blu-ray movies with BD-J technology (Java menus) will NOT resume. I know that neither of the Pirates of the Car. movies will resume.
But on your average Blu-ray movie, resume seems to work just fine. Oddly enough, some movies it doesn't work ALL the time, leading me to conclude this is more of a firmware/hardware fix than an issue with the tech itself. |

My Samsung BD-P1000 resumes even after shutting down....don't know about java discs or DVDs.
Also, since I'm not one to always leave a movie at some point...only to return to it later on, I can't be sure it works all of the time with all movies. But of the few times I stopped a movie and later returned to it...it resumed from where I last left it. |

Better resume is something I would like to see added to a future PS3 firmware. It really needs to be able to do it after you've powered down the PS3, my old pioneer dvd player did this. It's not uncommon for me to start watching a movie at night and for whatever reason I'm not able to finish watching it that night. I really don't want to leave the PS3 powered up overnight just so I can resume.

My Sony BDP-S1 will resume after shutting down if you are playing a SD-DVD, but it won't resume if you shut down a Blu-ray disc.
The non-resume and the fact that it is a little slow are the only two things the bug me about the BDP-S1. I figure it is a first generation player so its not a big deal. I am sure they will resolve this problem soon. Probably with the third generation player. ![]() |
