Question Polk Audio RTI 8 (almost out of stock @ amazon?)

Can anyone tell me if these speakers are a good buy?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...TQHZB9J50MRC31

I've been on the hunt for an HT set up and these seem well priced with decent reviews. Also can someone suggest a receiver for these bad boys? Pioneer or Onkyo?

thanks,
POPE

They are very good speakers but for like $25 more per, you can move up to the RTi 10

I paid $190 for mine, but it was at a Sound Advice that was going out of business. I really like mine and would recommend them. My roomsize is roughly 12x13 and I'm using a Velodyne sub, csi3 center and fxi3 rears. Terminator: Salvation sounded unreal.

Keep in mind that when you get up to the RTi10's, they a quite power hungry, which means you really should have an external amp as well to really get these things to sing. That means more money than just what a receiver costs. If you can afford it, then using a receiver as a pre/pro and to power your surrounds and using an external amp to power these and your center channel will give you the most performance from these speakers. Of course, whatever receiver you might use as a pre/pro must have pre-outs so you can use the external amp with it. Good luck!

I would tell you that's not necessarily true. sit 10 people down to listen to speakers and talk to them individually and they will tell you 10 different things. I've had the RTi10's for a couple of years and I love them they sound great, now you can make that 11 different things!

I agree with you forsberg, I have RTi10's and to get the best out of them I have them driven with my XPA-5 amp @ 200+ wpc and that brought about an incredible change relative to the receiver i started out using them with.

I have the RTi8's and I think they're absolutely great. When listening to the RTi10's at the store I didn't really like them, likely because they were underpowered.

If you don't want to go out buying very high end receivers or separates then the RTi8 + a nice sub will make you very happy. Course if you do have the money, then maybe try for the 10's with proper equipment.
