Ichi: JPN, UK or US edition? - Blu-ray Forum

Now that Ichi has been released in Japan, UK and US, I'm considering which version to buy.

The Japanese version is noticeably more expensive so if I buy that version, it would have to be because there's a clear difference in quality.

The UK edition seems to have strong Japanese audio and a pretty good PQ, but barebones extras. Also, the subtitles are forced, which I don't like (I prefer to watch with subs turned off, with Japanese audio)

The US edition seems to have a PQ that is a bit better than the UK edition, but the Japanese audio is noticeably less good. On the up side, subtitles can be turned off.

So, which version should I get? Any user feedback on any of the editions?

The US version seems the best choice.

I have the US version and thought it was well done. I've read here and on other sites that the English dub is higher quality audio, but I don't know if I'll ever find out because I would rather watch a movie in the original language. I don't speak Japanese, but you can turn the subs off like you said. I might watch it with the subs off when I watch it for the 30th time or something like that, but until then, I need those subs.

Extras schmextras. I'd go for the one with the feature image and sound in the best quality

I am waiting for my US copy and I'll gladly post a comparison between the UK and US. The specs of the US disc (bitrate, etc) are near identical to the Japanese version plus it has a few interesting extras. I'll let you know if the track sounds any different from the UK but as of now, the US version seems like the way to go.

Thanks, I would be very interested to read your (comparative) review on these releases.
I could buy the Japanese release but considering the price, prefer to keep my Japanese purchases to discs that aren't released outside of Japan.

Japanese version comes with the commentary track and the picture cards but I'm quite content with this FUNimation release. I'm glad they included many of the other special features that were on the Japanese release.

US and UK versions track sound more or less the same. US has removable subs as well. I'd go with the US version. PQ is ever so stronger on the US release as well. Overall, a better package than the UK release.

My Future Shop had it on the shelf last Tuesday (1 week early) but the Till wouldn't allow me to buy it as it wasn't entered in the system yet............. RATS
