The psychological impact hits when the price drops in the first digit.

$599 -> $499 huge change for the S300
$499 -> $449 (Costco) doesn't have a fraction of the impact

$599 -> $499 for the PS/3 has caused a HUGE boost in sales.

Compare that to:

$199 -> $179 (add-on)
$399 -> $349 (Xbox 360)

The impact just isn't there.

$399 -> $299 would have been big.

100 cheaper I may have bought one, even though I'm still holding out for the Falcon models.

Sounds like they're clearing Premium stock. Word on the street has been that after the 65nm switch the Elite will become the premium.

See. It's only $50 more, and yet it has a major psychological impact.

Still, given the reliability issues I wonder if even this cut will be seen as clearing out unreliable product?

That's a new version of the Elite? This time with a motherboard capable of sufficient bandwidth to allow HD audio to the HDMI transmitter?

That's sure what it looks like to me.

I'd wait to see if this new Falcon unit finally gets the hardware issues fixed.

Talking Price cut on XBox 360

Cheaper XBOX 360s soon Announcement
By Henning Molbaek
FIRST PUBLISHED Jul 30, 2007
According to XBOX site TEAMXBOX.com ads from Wal-Mart and Toy "R" Us have revealed a new lower price for the XBOX 360 console.

It is the premium model that is displayed in the ad and it is currently uncertain if it applies to all models. The new price is $349 down from $399.

The new price should be effective from August 12th. The company also recently discounted it's HD DVD add-on drive from $199 to $179. No doubt a response to Sony's recent price cut of the Playstation 3.

No official word from Microsoft yet.

I would only buy the Elite, and it's gonna take more than Gears and Mass Effect to convince me. (I hate Halo).

I basically don't picture myself ever getting a 360, but I guess I should never say never.

Alot of XBox hate. lol..

I have no problems with mine, I like in one thread that some said that a price cut for the Xbox won't come and I said why not. Like I said before the Xbox 360 price cut doesn't surprise me.

Xbox 360 is a good game system, no where near has good as PS3 but I play more games on my 360 than PS3. I for one will be looking forward to Halo 3, Mass Effect, Two Worlds, and a few others. Just like I'm looking foward to a few on the PS3.

cruzzer cruz why do you hate Halo?

DO NOT POST SCANS OF FLYERS BEFORE SALE DATE!!!!!!!!!!

I work for a printing company that prints... you guess it...insert fliers! We are told constently,Do Not Take ANY Printed material from the building,the customer (sears,toys' r us,circuit city ect..) is very concerned with security. Walmart has issued a lawsuit with with someone from NC i believe cause he put up a walmart flyer online,not only did that employee lose his job,the company he was working for lost the walmart account ($100 million account anyone?) He is now being sued by Walmart...Every 4 months we have to sign a confidenality report,stating we are not going to take anything out of the building...I'm serious,you may think "we'll it's just an ad" Retailers don't think of it like you do. Even though the 360 is dropping it's price,the goal is to sell as many at the regular price as they can,before they go on sale. Do yourself a favor and don't post scans of fliers on any websites...I've already heard about the person being busted for the PS3 ads...This is not a joke,people.
