I liked it a lot, but it wasn't great. The book and the movie are quite different. There were some subplots in the book that wasn't in the movie that sould have and some were left out(which was a good thing like the rape). The performances were strong and Mark did better than i thought. Overall, i would rate it a 7.5/10. The CGI was awesome too.

I recently watched it and loved it. I have never read the book so I don't know how good of adaptation it is but the movie is intense to watch and the performances are powerful especially Walhberg and young Saoirse Ronan. Oh, and Stanley Tucci also gives one heck of chilling performance as well. The story was amazing (it feels like two different films from time to time but Jackson handles beautifully) and visually, the film is incredible.

I give it a 9 out of 10........ definitely a must see and one I will be looking forward to watching again

I believe it's only playing at a handful of theatres currently.

Wide release is Jan 15th.

I want[ed] to see it, but I'm finishing up the book first.

I'm about 2/3 - 3/4 of the way through the book, and so far think it isn't all that great. Sebold isn't much of a writer.

So now I'm kind of worried about the movie.

I thought it was a bad and boring film, which as a fan of Jackson came as a surprise to me.

I am a pretty big fan of Peter Jackson movies, but im in no rush to see this simply because its not the type of film im into (the first Jackson to do that). I will probably hire it out if I am in the mood.

I really want to see this despite some of the bad things I've heard. I haven't read the book because it's the kind of book that really brings me down, but I trust Peter Jackson. Thanks for the wide release date, was wondering why I couldn't find it anywhere. I'm guessing Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is the same situation.

I enjoyed the movie, but I agree with the OP in that the film is flawed. I didn't really care for most of the metaphysical stuff (especially the CGI scenes). I haven't read the book, so I can't compare it to the movie.

Yeah, I think so. But it seems like one of those trendy books that gets big for some unknown reason, and sells tons of copies because it's the new "it" book, not because it's actually any good.

The CGI wasnt very well done either. The acting is good (especially the young actress playing the murdered girl, but the rest of the film is average to awefull with a constant changes in tone and several pointless scenes.).

I can't wait to see this. I love Jackson's films. Yet to see one I didn't like. This is going to split reviewers and audiences. Jackson tends to take more chances with his films than others which results in pretty divided audiences.

No particular reason really. I actually wanted to read the book when I saw the trailer of the movie but didnt really do it.

Anyway I could see why people find it boring because it was a boring movie, but it was still fun to watch, for me anyway.

However the ones that did read the book dont like it at all, so perhaps that is the difference. I guess they could have done more with the story.
