Default Steve McQueen's Best Movies

Just watched The Cincinnati Kid and The Getaway recently. I have a few others Steve McQueen films on DVD and rate them:
  1. The Cincinnati Kid
  2. The Great Escape
  3. Papillion
  4. The Magnificent Seven
  5. The Thomas Crown Affair
  6. The Getaway
  7. Bullitt

McQueen has been in a few more that have good reviews, which I've not seen. Which ones are must sees?

How do you rate his movies?

I really love the Great Escape, but that's an ensemble film so I don't count it.

Performance wise, it's Papillon. I thought he was brilliant in that one.

Although Steve's acting in The Great Escape was good , it does spoil the movie.
His character was totally fictitious , injected by Hollywood into a true story that just had no need of the character

My favorite Steve McQueen movie is probably The Hunter. Maybe because it's the first movie I saw him in, but probably because he's just more human in that movie. #2 would probably be Love with the Proper Stranger, for the same reason.

my favorites would be--

The Great Escape-- ensemble cast yes but he was still great in it--

The Getaway

The Towering Inferno-- really a good performance in a disaster movie-- a
genre that really is not noted for acting chops!

Dont know if you have seen them Travis but try The Sand Pebbles and Tom Horn. Personally The Great Escape is my favourite, everytime he gets on that bike and heads for the Alps just gets me.

Love Steve McQueen. One of my favorite films is The Great Escape - wish it would come out on Blu so bad!

I finally recently saw The Sand Pebbles for which he was nominated for an Academy Award. By the way, what a great Blu transfer! He's known so much for speaking volumes with his acting/facial/eye expressions without saying much dialogue and in this film really showcases that.

You should check out Junior Bonner if you're interested in McQueen stuff.

I haven't seen them. Sand Pebbles is at the top of my list. Also have yet to see Nevada Smith, Hell is for Heroes, and The Towering Inferno. Seen a bit on TV, I think.

I was born in '75 so have missed so many great movies. In the last few years, I have really gotten into 70's and 60's films. Great stuff. Watched some on TV and VHS growing up because my dad like me is a couch potato and really enjoys movies.

Just got, for $5,79 ea., Point Blank, The Getaway, The Cincinnati Kid and Pat Garret and Billy The Kid (Peckinpah's best IMO). Happy, almost the cost of renting. Still gotta a lot more from this era to watch.
