Default Manny Pacquiao Vs. Joshua Clottey -- March 13, 2010

With his fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. all but off, Manny Pacquiao has instead agreed to fight Joshua Clottey on March 13 at a site to be determined, Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach told ESPN's Brian Kenny on Friday.

The Pacquiao-Mayweather bout, which had also been tentatively set for March 13, was called off Wednesday night by Top Rank's Bob Arum, Pacquiao's promoter, after mediation failed to resolve their issues over drug-testing protocol.

But Mayweather Jr. maintained Thursday night that he still wanted to fight Pacquiao.

Clottey (35-3, 20 KOs), a 32-year-old from Ghana living in New York, last fought in a split decision loss to welterweight titlist Miguel Cotto on June 13, a fight many believed Clottey won.

Clottey had last been slated to fight Carlos Quintana on Dec. 5 in an undercard bout that was called off when Kelly Pavlik pulled out of the main event against Paul Williams with a lingering hand injury.

The final issue in the negotiation for the Pacquiao-Mayweather megafight was drug testing.

They agreed to unlimited random urine testing, but Mayweather also insisted on random blood testing, even though the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which would oversee the bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, requires only urine testing.

Pacquiao (50-3-2, 38 KOs) didn't want blood testing but later relented and agreed to three blood tests: one during the week of the kickoff news conference, which would have taken place next week, one random test to be conducted no later than 30 days before the fight and a final test in his dressing room after the fight. Mayweather (40-0, 25 KOs) would be subject to the same testing procedures.

When they could not come to an agreement, Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions, which represents Mayweather, turned to a mediator, retired judge Daniel Weinstein, who had successfully mediated a series of disputes between Top Rank and Golden Boy in 2007.

But after nine hours in mediation on Tuesday in Santa Monica, Calif., and further attempts to come to a resolution on Wednesday failed, the fight was pronounced dead by the Pacquiao camp.

Sad that Mayweather is so scared that for the good of the sport wont get
into the ring with Pacquiao....

Pacquiao not only was willing to do everything required under Nevada law, but
also to allow these blood tests that are not required..Mayweather just wanted
to use any excuse necessary to get out of the fight..

Default manny scared

Wow Manny is that scared to get in the ring with mayweather that he will take a 40 million dollar loss. Anybody who really knows boxing will tell you the mayweather is to big and fast for Manny, so this might be the reason manny has decided to pull this. O well who is he anyway... mayweather has never lost, and makes more money per fight. Manny been knocked out and has lost a few times.

Mayweather is the one that demanded random blood testing knowing Pacquiao wouldn't agree to it. Anyway, that's not what this thread is about.

Well all Pac had to do was call his so-called bluff and agree to it and then we couldve seen if Mayweather wouldve came up with another excuse! Cmon now! Got Em!!

Right, but Manny has the right to decline it since he was never tested postive for anything. That's his own legal rights.

Of course Mayweather will come up with something to just duck the fight.

Also the word "Drugs" has never been mentioned in a sentence with Pacquiao until Mayweather and Company started accusing him with false accusations.

Don't you mean Floyd "The Duck" Mayweather is scared to get in the ring with Pac-Man? He's the one making unfounded claims and idiotic demands. Of course if I were a paper tiger I'd be afraid of Pacquiao too.

Pac Man is in my top ten all-time lists. But he's wrong on this one. If you're clean, then take the damn blood tests, whats the big deal! This could be the biggest fight ever, leave no doubt the match is fair and square by taking the tests. All Mayweather asked for is random testing up to 14 days before the fight and a test right after the fight. Mind you, Mayweather would be subject to the same testing. We'd be asking for any other athlete's head on a platter for ducking a drug test. Pac Man shouldn't get a free pass here.

You really need to check the other Pacquiao thread to be up to date about this ridiculous drug testing.

Back on topic, I'm gonna order PPV whoever Manny fights next.

Show me the proof. Something more than "Floyd said so." Because he's just parroting Pappa Mayweather, and he's just upset Pac-Man made his fighter(Hatton) look like a chump.
