Pretty sure Sleeping Beauty is going back into the vault VERY soon, possibly this month. Not sure when it's happening with Pinocchio, probably late this year or early next year.

January 31 is Sleeping Beauty. It has 3-6 month lead time on Pinocchio so I would expect something to happen around summer time for that.

i have yet to buy Pinocchio. i never really liked that movie as a child but i just like to have to Disney movies in my collection... especially on Blu. Sleeping Beauty looked amazing. Buy it as soon as you got the money cause it's worth every penny. One of my favorite Blu-rays.

Think January 31 is the only vault date, so it's Pinocchio next year, but Sleeping Beauty's definitely this month.

Not to mention, all the various DVD and sequel incarnations of Jungle Book and 101-2 Dalmatians are going with her, if we can believe our local Best Buy's "Beat the Vault!" last-minute display.
(The originals and all the video-sequels tend to be retired in groups, which raises suspicions about whether they'll come back as a package deal when the next special-edition comes out.)

Darn, I bought mine right out of the gate, and missed the chance to get those cool Christmas steelbook reissues with better looking covers, that BB was selling over the holidays--
You might still be able to get a copy, at least online.

I went to Best Buy yesterday, just looking around because I hadn't been there in a while. I was pretty surprised to see that they had steelbooks for Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Monster's Inc, A Nightmare Before Christmas, and one of the Pirate's movies. I looked for them before and did not see any in stock, which was why I was surprised that they had them now. They were pretty cool looking, but the price tag on them said $34.99. I had wanted them when they were originally announced and I did get the UP and Snow White ones, but I am over that. Steelbooks don't really interest me.

Wait... I've never heard of this before? Vault? What happens when it goes back into a vault? And what about the rest of the other SB on the market? Do they go back to the vault on the deadline as well?

You better buy sleeping beauty now, as I see it's on your wishlist. It went into the vault on Jan 30, which means no more copies will be made until 2015. The only ones available are in the stream of commerce. Disney does this with all their movies--they release them for two years and then place them in the vault for five, so that they're released every 7 years.

Just picked up the steelbook of Sleeping Beauty @ Best Buy today for $25.19 (I had them price match Wherehouse.) I already have the release in the regular blu-ray case, but thought I'd pick the steelbook up before it was impossible to get ahold of.

Those are the only Blu's as of yet, but take it for granted that ALL the Platinum DVD's have been put back into the vault at some time before coming back out for their Blu's (most of the DVD's are back in by now), and the Diamond series is continuing the system--
If you haven't gotten Snow White either, better hurry on that one too, as it'll likely be going back in on January '11, along with two or three other DVD titles (with their accompanying sequels/spinoffs) to be named later.

(And yes, might want to pick up Pinocchio, as this's the first time it's ever had an edition this good at all.)

I was fortunate enough to pick up Steelbook versions of Sleeping Beauty and Pinocchio at a local Best Buy. I was suprised to find they also had Steelbooks of Cars, Wall-E and Pirates 2 and 3. Are the Steelbooks less popular than I thought?

even though Sleeping Beauty has been vaulted for months now it's still worthless.
(i.e. worth what it sold for or even less)
The Disney stuff doesn't seem to have the same cachet any more for the most part.
I used to clean up on amazon with OOP Disney dvds, and the demand is just not there anymore.
sure, there are exceptions, but dvds of "Cinderella" and "Aladdin" which have been long OOP aren't worth anything right now.
many OOP titles are exactly the same.
I really don't think the demand will ever be at the levels we used to see for the OOP Platinum titles, with the rare exception for the super short-pressed stuff like "Dr Syn".

Worthless to you perhaps, but not to most of us who buy these movies out of love not trying to make a quick profit.

In anycase your complaining about something that is still pretty easily availble online and instore, give it another year or two once stores have depleated their remaining stock,(my local bestbuy and target still have one or two copies of both aladdin and cinderella on the shelf) then you will see people willing to pay more for them.

They usually have commercials when this happens w/their movies. And even after they are “locked away” stores still get to sell through the inventories that they have.

I'd hazard a guess that there's less demand for OOP Disney DVDs because we've moved on to another generation of media. Most Disney-branded films ---at least the animated titles---have had at least two releases on DVD over the past decade; reissues will now come on a higher-capacity, higher-performance format with superior presentation quality and featuring recent restoration. Unless someone's dying for a particular DVD package's extras that weren't (or aren't likely to be) released on subsequent reissues, where is the real selling point for used Disney DVDs?
