According to Play.com they will release the Director's Cut of Star Trek The Motion Picture at the end of March - the listing clearly states:
'The U.S.S. Enterprise proudly soars again in this beautifully restored Director's Edition of the original Star Trek movie classic. This director's cut features enhanced visual effects and a new sound mix, supervised by legendary director Robert Wise.' Fab!! ![]() |

Well the bluray couldn't have been supervised by Robert Wise, having sadly passed away about five years ago. The commentary thats listed is the one that was on the theatrical cut bluray aswell. Considering how much they would have to upgrade the visual effects for bluray I wouldn't expect to see the Director's Edition on BD until Star Trek 12 comes out.

be glad that we got the "original" movie.
It would be great to get the director's cut for this also, but in this case I would have been very upset if the original movie hadn't been presented with the original effects. I saw it it the theater, and the director's cut is very different. part of the reason the DC hasn't been issued yet is of the complicated nature of bringing these updated effects to bd. It goes back to the fact that the effects were rendered in a lesser resolution than the original film elements. ST:TMP is a very unusual case as regards the later DC version. of course there is a dvd of it, but it is much more complex to bring it to bd because of the increased resolution of bd. I did read his post, and I repeat - did he not read the posts above?
It's more than clear that this is not true, it's an error in listings. More so, the reasons why the Director's Cut was not released on Blu Ray have been made very clear. The new special effects were not done in High Definition, meaning any potential future release will take considerable time and money. |
