Exclamation Drag me to Hell!

I have just watched this film, and I think I've (almost) seen genius. Let me create a senario made up in this movie to explain why it is so great, Evil demonic old woman is strangling you, there is no escape, you notice a rope which is connected to a harness which is supporting a heavy weight swinging above the old womans head, you cut the wire the weight comes crashing down and old woman eyes pop out, in Evil Dead fashion. How is that not genius, it so Tom and Jerry in it's setup.

But a lot of people don't like this film, sure you may have your reasons, but those reason probably will go against what the movie was stading for. This was never trying to be anything ground-breaking, it was a film which was trying to be fun and was trying to be scary. Now maybe you weren't scared by it (I was) but you can at least say you had fun.

This film is showing how horror should be made, silly and over the top, with goofy scares. The horror genre was never serious, so why are so many trying to make it serious.

I agree and disagree! The horror film genre is taken serious as there are real great groundbreaking horror films that are serious. However Drag Me to Hell isnt one of them but i love the film for what it is though. It is a modern day horror/comedy (more horror) with a cool original idea and concept! But u have great horror films like The Shining, Carrie, The Exorcist etc....that are great horror films that are all time classics and are taken seriously! Got Em!!

I didn't say it was ground-breaking, I do believe that you can make a serious horror movie, but you can not make one within the relmes of the real world. The serious problem with Paranormal Activity (other than the fact that the boyfriend was a nobhead, and every actor in the film was crap) was it took it's self way to seriously to be scary.

I thought the audio and video, audio especially, for the Blu-Ray version were very good, which surprised me (having heard nothing about it before watching). The movie itself, however, still had some really lame parts that literally made me laugh out loud, as most horror movies that I've seen do.

Drag Me to Hell did what it was supposed to do, it re-established Sam Raimi as a player in the horror genre and as one of the best filmmakers in Hollywood after the maligned Spider-Man 3.

I do agree that the silly marketing killed the film, making it out to be a proper scary horror film.

Not to be mean but anyone who didn't know Sam Raimi makes comedic horror films doesn't really know Sam Raimi.

Mentioned 3 times before my post

To his credit 30 Days of Night was very good, so maybe there is still hope that the other two were just major duds and he'll be back.

I think Drag Me to Hell was a Thank You to the Legion of fans wanting him to return to his roots. He could have taken a "cash grab" approach and tweaked something he had already done. Instead, he took a great "Twilight Zone" type of an idea and spread it out over 90 minutes. Gags and giggled shocks have always been part of the resume.

I loved the film. As a parent of pre-teens, this was the first movie that jolted them, made them scared (momentarily) and entertained them enough to want to watch over and over.

Carrie, Shining, Exorcist, Ghost Story, Amityville, etc. are all great classics but tend to be overshadowed now by both "technical effects" and "in your face" shocks. It's hard to entertain the kids with those classics.

Had them watch Psycho, however. Suprisingly, it still achieved the desired effect. Not so much "scary" as opposed to the suspense build.

I liked it - wife LOVED it - but when we bought it and watched it on Blu - it didn't hold up.

With the suspense gone (since we knew what was coming) - it came off as hokey.

I gave it an average rating the first time because basically Raimi just copied himself. There were so many Evil Dead throw backs that it got annoying.

I kept thinking during the movie - "Dude! We get it! You're the director of the Evil Dead movies! Sheesh!"

Good horror/humor movie - doesn't hold up on repeat viewings.

I don't get the connection, was Raimi involved with 30 Days of Night?
