Default PS3 - Simultaneous Audio Output?

Now, call me crazy, but I could've sworn that I read in one of the Firmware releases from a bit back (I haven't updated my PS3 in months - I think it's still on 2.4) - that it was able to do simultaneous audio output on all 3 outputs (opt, HDMI, comp) at once. Is this true? I'm trying to find the specific one, but can't - thanks in advance.

no, not all 3. from what i understand (i dont use it) it will borrow from the hdmi audio if your using 7.1 changing it to 5.1 allowing for analog stereo for simul. output. there was an explanaition on the ps3 support pages at playstation.com

Yes 3.0 firmware fixed this, so you can simultaneous output, but I think on just 2. I never read anything about it changing the sound. But then again most people use it for Optical and HDMI and have said they had no problems.

FYI, I personally haven't tried it.

PS3™ | Audio Multi-Output

Quote:
Audio Multi-Output

Adjust this setting to output audio through the HDMI OUT connector, the DIGITAL OUT (OPTICAL) connector, and the AV MULTI OUT connector simultaneously.

On : Enable the multi-output feature.
Off : Disable the multi-output feature.

Hint

When the multi-output feature is enabled, the following conditions will occur:
  • Audio output to connectors that are not selected in (Settings) > (Sound Settings) > [Audio Output Settings] is downscaled to 2 channels.
  • If you select [HDMI] in (Settings) > (Sound Settings) > [Audio Output Settings], audio will be output from the HDMI OUT connector with the following restrictions:
    - Audio in Linear PCM format can only be output up to 5.1 ch, 44.1/48 kHz.
    - Even if [Audio Multi-Output] is set to [On] on a CECH-2000 series system, bitstream audio recorded in Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus or DTS-HD format cannot be output on the system.
  • If you select [Optical Digital] in (Settings) > (Sound Settings) > [Audio Output Settings], audio will be output from the DIGITAL OUT (OPTICAL) connector with the following restriction:
    - Audio in Linear PCM format can only be output up to 44.1/48 kHz.
