I can't tell you about the DVD and compare it as such, but this a one hell of a disc. The PQ is not reference, but I didn't notice any major flaws with it. If you read the review by Pro-B he explains it fully. The AQ on the other hand is absolutely phenomenal and certainly qualifies IMO as reference.
Hope this helps. John |

I rented the DVD prior to the Blu-ray coming out. The Blu-ray is absolutely reference material..... that being said, it's a really strong DTS track on the DVD.....
For $12 I don't think you'd be disappointed, but these drop below $10 quite frequently I believe on Amazon...... EDIT: Looks like it hit $7.99 at one point, but $10.99 has been the price more frequently..... for $12 I say go for it ![]() |

I have had both (gave away my DVD/DTS version) and they are both audio reference quality. No wonder DTS used the last cut on the DVD on one of their early DVD demo disks.
The biggest difference IMO is that the Blu-ray is in 16x9 vs. 4x3 for the DVD. The PQ is better on the Blu, but PQ is not the strong point of this old concert. It was filmed in a small night club with a variety of film cameras (8, 16 & 35mm if what I read that from was correct, easy to see the difference between the cameras used). The 35mm segments do look much better than the DVD, but the difference between the cameras are also more obvious with the Blu. The DTS-HD MA is fantastic, and this concert has been one of my demos for years (DVD & Blu). For $12, I would grab it! |

I have the DVD, and reading here today I just realized that the DVD is 1.33 and the Blu Ray is 1.78. Now I must get a copy of the BD. I remember watching the show when it came out in HBO and my TV back in 1987, like anyone else's, was a 1.33 screen and I assumed all along the master tape was also.
So, is it a true 1.78 aspect ratio or a cropped one? |
