Grain structure is part of what is on film in the first place and should be preserved as part of the art form. It should also be mirrored image from 35mm to digital master tape though its telecine process.

Wow at least it would be at 24fps rate rather than speeded up 25fps.

Also audio commentary sessions with Spielberg and re-recoding mixes as they hardly get say! I’m feed up listening to visual effects guys they ramble to much! Mixers don’t hardly ever get invited to do commentary track. And an isolated six-track Dolby stereo digital True musical score with commentary by John Williams now that would make neat Bluray!

I bet it’s the just the old one been recycled same extras and nothing else.

best scene? the harbour... the crowd moving towards the Ferry... the quiet thumping of the Tripods coming up from behind the hill... the boy is the only one to look back, then tom cruise starts to turn to see what he is looking at... then the cracks of the trees makes everyone turn around... then you have the siren-like sound from the ship... everyone starts screaming...

that is the best scene in the whole movie, just the fear the sound of the ship brings...

Whooo! Love this movie. Have to agree about the detestable characters, though. The daughter and the son had no compassion from me.

Plus - the audio. I just saw the DVD yesterday, and it has sound comparable to Blu-ray. Just the LFE extension alone rivals anything out on BR right now.

I'll never forget the sound effects of this movie both during the initial lightning storm and the first attack sequence. It was so intense that it actually was frightening-- if you have an elaborate sound system this will
be a reference blu-ray---
I still have a DTS/DDS 5.1 system and I bet it will still sound awesome!

the audio is still reference level =). it's what DTS-HD MA was designed to do.

That's funny! War Of The Worlds 2005 had a way of turning off my Panasonic 6.1 surround sound processor. When you would get one of those loud droning sounds from the Martian ships, the harmonic would shut down the system. Must have been a harmonic that was turning it off and to this day, it was the only movie to do that to that system. I've since upgraded, so it's no longer an issue.

I'm sure some people dislike it because of Tom Cruise and that girl who's name is escaping me at the moment, but I saw it in theaters and enjoyed it when I was about... 14 or 15. Then I went back and watched it once I got my HDTV my Junior year of high school and couldn't even sit through it. Annoying angsty teen, the girl having weird little panic attacks, odd decisions made by characters, and the worst case of *serious plot spoiler* [spoilers]Oh hey look this guy didn't really die, despite the fact that the entire hillside he was on was engulfed in flames. Nope, he's just chilling at Grandma's.[/spoilers]

There are so many better Spielberg movies out there, so many AMAZING ones, that to bring this rather mediocre title to Blu-Ray is frustrating for fans. Don't get me wrong, I see potential for "stupid fun" to be had with this, but it just doesn't cut it for me.

From a technical standpoint, audio in particular, this is one of the most anticipated releases yet..........bringing this title to BR is a fantastic/obvious choice considering the format

Yes, I saw the original (1953 version) when I was a kid (OMG) and the contemporary version with Tom Cruise (2005) obviously in 2005 and I agree without a shadow of a doubt that this movie is a must have for Blu. Science Fiction shines in Blu and for all of us Science Fiction geeks this will hold an exhalted place in our collection for sure.

Note: If this is a SteelBook release I will not be able to contain myself and will probably need to rely on some type of bladder-control product.

Second Note: When Artificial Intelligence: AI comes out in Blu I will literally cry for days on end...
