I just watched 2 of these over the weekend on a up-convert and they look amazing. Kinda hope they do them, but you will only get Up in Smoke for the first 5 years im sure.

These movies are sometimes watched by people who are either drunk or high, so what difference does it make if it is VHS or crystal clear BLU RAY?

I'd love to see more late 70s/early 80s comedies on Blu-ray. Animal House is one of the few perfect comedies where almost every line is funny. Cheech and Chong's early work was also hilarious, even for those of us that aren't on the pot all the time, but they got progressively worse with each release.

Here's a review from Hi Def Digest on the HD-DVD transfer.

According the review:

'Animal House' looks pretty much how I thought it would look on HD DVD: kinda old, kinda ragged around the edges, yet still with plenty of roguish charm.......it is far from "perfect."

Later on in the review, is it stated:

However, note that John Landis has been reported as saying he initially felt that Universal's remaster on the previous "Double Secret Probation Edition" may have been too good, so he ordered the studio to not make it look so shiny and perfect.

So, it doesn't sound like there would be any upside to a BR release when an upconverted standard def release might be it's equal or superior.

No, but I doubt that a high or drunk person would be able to tell the difference between VHS, DVD, or BLU RAY.
If anything, they won't remember what they saw.

I have it, the transfer is better than the DVD but I was still disappointed. The only Cheech and Chong movie I would get was the first one - "Up in Smoke". The second one was marginal and the other two were just plain awful, and by the way, I was a big C&C fan from the release of their first album in '70(?).
