Default recommend a good 2 channel stereo receiver?

hi, been searching and looking online for a good 2 channel stereo receiver for music. i have an onkyo now, but i cant add an amp to it. wanted to get one with sub & speaker preouts so i can add a upa-2 emo amp to it. can anyone recommend a decent receiver to do the job that has preouts? thanks

well it depends. if i could get a good receiver that would drive 2 4-8ohm speakers nicely or get a less $$ receiver and an amp to power it for less $$

i guess i would say $300 max on a receiver, but i know alot of ppl will say usp 1 with upa-2. but those together is $700? any thoughts?

Best one i could find to meet all your needs, it will probably give you 100 watts per channel too, so you won't need an amp right away.

I like this one, as Denon makes very accurate and warm sounding receviers.

have you looked at the Harman Kardon store on ebay for the HK 3490?
eBay Store - Harman Audio: Harman Kardon, Infinity, JBL

120 watts per channel into 8 ohms / 150w into 4 ohms.
Plenty of units there to bid on. It has preouts but doesn't even seem like a UPA-2 would be worth hooking up to that though. Also has dual subwoofer outs

Here is a review also
Harman Kardon HK 3490 Stereo Receiver

My suggestion would be to look for a used pre-amp in your price range instead of a receiver, especially if your planning on adding an amp. A pre-amp will be better suited for 2 channel listening and you will you be spending the money on a better analog section which is what you are after. You would be wasting your money on an AVR because you would be investing in the amp section which you don't need. Of course this is assuming that you are running analog, not digital, from your source.

The Parasound 2100 seems to get good reviews. Should be in your price range used. And if your are adding an Emotiva amp, the obvious choice for a pre-amp would be the USP-1.

If you are going to use an external amplifier, my number one recommendation is the Emotiva analog 2 channel preamplifier. It doesn't have any built-in amplifiers, but its quality is better than any receiver.

Emotiva 2.1 USP-1 Preamp, $399:

actually i am picking up a outlaw pre/pro and 5 channel amp tomorrow from someone local selling it. i believe its a 950 pre and 975 amp i think. anyways it will be more than enough for my 2 channel setup. beside it wont cost me a ton to make the move. just auditioned 3 pairs of towers today at lunch time for my 2 channel setup. so far the B&W 683's are winning
