I have yet to see it, but Brothers looks very good. I'm hoping to find it worthy of being added to my Blu-ray library.

Excellent film. Tobey Maguire should be nominated for an Oscar for this role.

Saw it in theaters.
Real good, but not as great as the trailer made it out to be.

Still, day one buy for me.

Damn, same day as 4 Criterion releases.
Expensive.

(Woot! First post, btw!)

I might be in a small minority here, but I actually thought Gyllenhaal did a better job than Maguire here. For the majority of the film, Macguire didn't have to do much more than be his high pitched, monotone self. It might have fit the role he was portraying well, but when it comes to acting I didn't feel he had to do all that much.

Gyllenhaal's character, on the other hand, had to go through a transformation and I was there with him every step of the way, cheering him on.

I've never been a Maguire fan anyways, so you can take what I say with a grain of salt

Overall the film was enjoyable yet a bit of a let down emotionally. It just wasn't as gripping and intense as I wanted it to be. Worth picking up on blu once the price falls below $20

He certainly is but both were terrific in this. Portman was great too. The movie was just average for me though. Nothing spectacular, nothing awful, just so-so.

Never saw it but I wonder how close it is to the original Danish version of the film.

I thought it was a great movie, but it's not really what I was expecting. It moves rather slow through the whole thing and the previews are very misleading as to certain story elements, (Not really much of a spoiler, but I'll wrap it anyway).
[Show spoiler]The relationship between Natalie Portman and Jake Gyllenhaal is not quite as extreme as the previews make it seem. The previews make their relationship seem to be much more serious than it was.
So if you judge by the previews you'll likely be left scratching your head after the movie going, well, that wasn't what I was expecting. But, it was a great movie and Toby McGuire did an amazing job. I think he should have gotten an Oscar nomination for this role. I'd recommend renting it first if you haven't seen it.

[Show spoiler]Yes. It doesn't ever offer a definitive answer in that regard because the film's focus is in the psychological effect on McGuire's character of what "could have been." I was misled by the trailers as well and ended up liking the movie more because of that added level of depth.

This is a definite purchase for me... but probably later down the line. I recommend it as a blind-buy for those that are unsure. It is nothing spectacular but still a really good movie.

I would pass on this one. It was one of 10 movies I wanted to see last year. I don't think I would ever watch it again. Toby was kind of sucked in the movie. Its up to you guys I would say watch it at least once.

I agree, the way the film was shot and the director's idea really moved this one around. It could have been a masterpiece and instead was so-so. I loved it mainly because of the idea and actors in it.

I also prefer the new cover cause it looks like a cool war movie .... except this isn't a war movie really. marketing, haha.
