Was watching an episode from Season 6 (Frame of Mind) on my PS3 slim last week, and about 15 mins into it the video freezes, while the audio continues to play fine. I then stop playback, reboot my PS3 and resume playback from where it left off. It played fine at this point for another 10 mins or so, and then the same thing happened.
At this point, it was ruining one of my fav episodes of TNG, so I decided to just go watch it in the bedroom on a regular DVD player. The next day I go to check on my PS3 slim to see if it was okay by popping in some blu-rays, and all of a sudden the unit won't playback any of my movies. First I started getting movie playback error codes. It was the same one each time, and one that was not recognizable by the service agents when I called the helpline. Other times, the system would freeze up upon trying to play a movie, where the unit was unresponsive to button presses from either the remotes or the unit itself. Sadly I had to simply unplug the power cord from the unit to restart it. It restarts fine and loads the xmb menu, but still no movie playback. I give up at this point, call the helpline, try to troubleshoot to no avail, and end up sending in my system for an exchange. I called today and the agent said in the service notes that the unit could not be repaired so they're exchanging me a system. Anyways, just wanted to inform and ask people here if this or something similar has ever happened to them with their Slim? I don't suggest people who own the TNG series to try this though, because if the DVD itself is the cause of this, you'll be ruining a perfectly good Slim. At the same time, I wonder if I should try to play that episode again when I get my exchanged PS3, and see if it does the same thing? Thoughts? p.s. To make things worse, my 360 elite RROD'd on me 5 days later. Luckily I'm still under warranty |

don't think a DVD can brick a system your player was probably just one of the few unlucky ps3s
