Movie and Disc have a greater size than the UK/AUS and US versions. Japan version is 34.8GB Feature/46.7GB Disc Size. Also has both 24bit PCM 5.1 and DTS-HD MA 5.1 track vs the TrueHD track on the other versions. Comes in a very nice gold case with a ~20p art booklet. Overall, the nicest package of AS:R. PQ seemed more or less the same as the other available versions.

Unlike the Japanese AS, AS:R is in 1080p/23.976.

anyone any ideas what this "Afro Samurai Blu-ray Complete Box" (http://www.yesasia.com/global/afro-s...0-en/info.html) includes?

Is it just the those single release: (http://www.yesasia.com/global/afro-s...0-en/info.html) and (http://www.yesasia.com/global/afro-s...0-en/info.html) packed together?

Yes. It also comes with art cards not available in the individual releases.

Can you say something about the average bitrate? The features GBs include all audio-options, so based on them you can not say which release has the higher bitrate: US or JP? If not the precise bitrate, maybe its range...

I have no way to check the exact average bitrate of the disc as I don't have nor plan to install "that" program on my PC. Based on the a few scenes watched on my PC via PDVD 7, It appears the bitrate hovers around 25-30. The PQ looks identical to the UK release I have.

I hope you do not mind my constant questioning! But I still do not get where the difference in Feature filesize between the US/UK and the JAP BD come from... If the PQ bitrate is about the same: nearly 10GB for two more audio-options (and one of it is stereo)? Is the audio-bitrate higher?

Can you check their range on your PC too?

First of all: Afro Samurai - Ressurection is most likely codefree (it ran on my Code-B-PS3).

Now to solve the mystery:

The videobitrate of the JP BD is a tad higher than the one on UK/US BD. It is about 32-33 Mbps. Audiowise the JP BD offers a PCM track which is fixed at 6.9 Mbps and a DTS-Master track at about 3.9 to 4.0 Mbps. So audiowise the JP BD outperforms the UK/US BD in a significant way!

You are definitely right, it is the nicest package on AF: R. I also got the "Firstpress" Version and, eventhough I usualy do not mind the "package presentation", this one really impressed me!

So go for the JP BD and enjoy it

Or just buy the UK disc if you can, because it's cheaper, is lossless anyway. The PQ is no slouch either, it's a well encoded disc.
