Unhappy HDMI Audio?

My receiver (HTIB one) supports HDMI so I decided to go from using opitcal audio from my ps3 to receiver, to HDMI instead.

So that meant me having to buy a HDMI splitter/switcher to connect HDMI from the PS3 to the receiver and the TV, right?

But it's not working.

the setup looks like this:

TV >> HDMI splitter >> then two HDMI cables to each the PS3 and the receiver.

But the splitter seems to only enable one or the other..

I can only seem to turn HDMI on the receiver when I switch it to the receiver on the splitter. But then when I switch it back to the PS3, the HDMI audio is disabled from the receiver.

I've looked at the sticky's here and followed the guides but nothing. Changed the settings on the PS3 but nothing, I get no sound at all through my speakers, only my TV.

What am I doing wrong? Or am I just plain stupid? Help!!

Why are you using a splitter if your HTiB accepts HDMI audio? What is the exact make/model of your HTiB?

You should have it set up like this:

PS3 -->HDMI-->HTiB-->HDMI-->TV

Ricshoe is correct. you will also need to make changes in your ps3 audio setup. also are you using the ps3 fat or slim? remember the fat only will output LPCM via HDMI were as the slim can do both LPCM or bitstream HD audio codecs via HDMI. If your HTiB supports HD codecs, if you have the slim then i recommend bitstreaming if you want to see your codec lights on your receiver. If you have the fat, then you can still get HD audio from your system, the decoding will be done on the fat then streamed LPCM via HDMI to your receiver.

hope that helps, keep us posted.

You don't need a splitter. Just connect your ps3 to your receiver and your receiver to tv. The splitter isn't allowing your ps3 and receiver to communicate.

Thanks for the replies.

Okay I see what you're all saying, BUT, my receiver only has ONE HDMI input in it, which is why I thought a splitter would do the trick, forgot to add that in, sorry.

I have the PS3 fat aswell.

It's a Samsung HT-TZ315R 1000 Watt 5.1 Channel Home Cinema System.

Any other suggestions at all? Or am I screwed? I think I am..

There is only one space for a HDMI cable to go in on the Samsung, yeah.

Sounds like your HTIB has 1 HDMI output( video output for built-in DVD player ), & no HDMI inputs.

PS3>>HDMI( for video )>>TV
PS3>>digital optical( for audio )>>HTIB
HTIB>>HDMI( video for built in DVD player )>>TV
TV>>phono/RCA( for audio )>>HTIB

HDMI splitter not needed.

Is the HDMI plug an input or output? Best I can tell, it's an output, which means your HTiB will not accept HDMI audio. Your only option it to run HDMI video from your PS3 to your TV and then run optical audio from your PS3 to your HTiB. Set your PS3 to bitstream your lossy DD and DTS 5.1 codecs.

But with this setup..will I still be able to get HD sound?

I don't even know if it's an input or output .

It's an output. This HTIB has the following video outputs & no video inputs: HDMI , Scart , Component and Composite. It does have audio inputs, of course.

Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, & DTS-HD Master Audio are not possible with this HTIB.

You can only get Dolby Digital , Dolby ProLogicII & DTS with this HTIB.
Blu-ray players are required to support DD at its maximum 640kbps bit rate & DTS at its maximum 1.5Mbps bit rate. Both an improvement over what DVD offered( DD@448Kbps & DTS@754Kbps ).
