Default Outlander available in May

I just got a pre-order announcement from Amazon that the Jim Caviezel sci-fi movie, "Outlander" will be released on BR in May.

I've wanted this movie on BR since I first bought it on DVD -- it's a terrific little sleeper of a sci-fi movie that made my list of best movies of 2008. This is one movie that anyone interested in action/sci-fi should definitely want to watch (and, at only $14, it's worth a blind buy for most of you).

Vivendi is releasing it. Looks like Weinstein sold it off. I wonder if he sold all of the films to Vivendi.

I've shown it now to three separate couples (when we have movie night on our 9' home theater) and every time they've been impressed -- I can only imagine how much better a BR will be.

It's very cool to introduce it to folks because it wasn't widely seen (or talked about) when released. I well remember when "Pitch Black" was like that -- a sleeper you could show people who'd nearly always say "wow, I never knew about this great film".

I saw this movie in the theater during its initial release, and I thought Sean Connery did a good job playing a marshal on one of Jupiter's moons (Io?). The doctor who assists him (don't know the actress' name) is great. I hope the transfer is done well, because this will be a must buy for me.

they are talking about some other movie with the same title. I would rather have the Sean Connery film in HD.

You are thinking of a different movie, I know the one you mean...

This is NOT "Outland" (the Sean Connery one). And the CG is very good indeed, so I don't know what the other poster was talking about (and they actually had practical effects for many of the closeups).

"Outlander" was released in 2008 and received terrific critical reviews but it was buried at the box office (apparently only staying for two weeks in most places if that) and most folks never heard of it. At $14 it's worth a purchase -- I paid twice that (for two) to see it at the movies <g>.

I have to warn people against blindbuying this, rent it first, I thought this movie was pure crap to be honest and it cannot be compared to what Pitch Black did.

To each his own -- hey, there are some people who are anxious to buy "Armageddon" <bg> (compared to which this is "Citizen Kane").

And while it's not hugely important, the majority of film critics did love this film -- for what it's worth (once again, as opposed to Michael Bay crap like "Transformers 2")

I liked it. Hellboy didn't get enough screen time, he played an awesome Viking.

Already have it! I saw it at a midnight movie showing when I was an undergrad at Ohio State, and later was able to pick up the DVD in the $4.99 bargain bin. A classic!

And that is your opinion. I happen to think it's way better than Pitch Black.
