I believe you mean Halo 3 in 2007, not Halo 2.

This.

Half-Life pioneered first person shooters and than perfected it with Half Life 2. I hate RPG's but you can't deny the power or WOW, you just can't.

Halo changed something for consoles, but not as much as something like Counterstrike that changed online gaming forever. The game is still being played now after it was started in 1999.

Halo defined controls for all FPS games on consoles to come after it. Once that FPS ball got rolling more and more people started to game on consoles as their preferred choice. Yeah I played a ton of CS ever since beta 1.4 and on. HL was amazing. But the difference of that experience vs playing with your friends on a console changed things.

It brought was was typically a niche product for gamers only to the mainstream.

Very good points.

For me I started CS in the early betas so it dramatically changed the way I viewed and played video games.

Like I said, it definitely changed a lot from a console perspective. Take me as an example, I never used to game on console until I got my PS3 but that's not directly related to Halo. I played it , liked it but I didn't continue gaming on consoles on my own, only when friends were over.

I can't really say Halo was a direct reason for mainstream gaming but it did it's fair share, that's for sure. Obviously, this can be different for everyone else out there

I have a love hate thing for CS. Love it cause it's fun and awesome. Hate it because I played it instead of going to some of my college classes.

2001 Halo brought the online craze center stage for consoles and GTA III showed use what its like to have freedom in a game and now you can't get enough freedom.

NOT TO MENTION!!!!!!!!! you left out Max Payne, Gran Turismo 3 , Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty , Final Fantasy X, Devil May Cry, Red Faction, Black and White

haha. I was the same man. The amount of time I "waisted" on that game, it's maddening. At least you only started in CS 1.4 , not the Betas like me...

I'm going to go with 2004 and Halo 2. Halo 2 really brought multiplayer console gaming to prominence which of course changed the gaming world forever.
