Ruh roh Rorge! PS3 Slim not recognizing game discs

So I'm playing MGS4 last night and as the sequence with Big Momma is about to end (where snake gives her a gun), the games freezes and all of a sudden in the top left of the screen a question mark and then a disc symbol starts flashing and i can hear that PS3 slim making a funny sound as it tries to read the disc I guess.

Took the disc out, turn the unit off and on, tried other discs, no dice. When I put a game disc in the game does not come up for me to select on the main PS3 screen.

I wonder what happened? Luckily I have a 2 year protection plan with Best Buy so she'll be going there this weekend.

When I got my fat PS3 it came with MGS4 and it wouldn't read that disc at all. It could read other games though, as well as play blu-rays and DVDs. I tried swapping out the disc with my friend and my disc would play in his console but his disc still wouldn't play in mine. I don't know what it was but I ended up having to exchange the console.

MGS4 is one of the few (only?) PS3 game on a 50 gig Blu-Ray, and I'd guess that was your problem. Glad you got it fixed.

Well, whatever the problem was with my PS3 it makes no difference now because Best buy just let me exchange it. I had to bring in all the original accessories and then they gave me a new one off the shelf. And my 2 year protection plan is still good on the new system.

So I'm back in action!
