Default Buy.com Selling on Amazon.com? Huh?

I was under the impression that Amazon.com and Buy.com were competitors? I saw today, that Buy.com is actually a merchant on Amazon.com and is selling it's stuff. Weird.

Many competitors seem to sell on Amazon's marketplace. DeepDiscount also does this practice. What is strange is that often the same item they sell will be cheaper on Amazon (where they still have to pay commission) than on their own sites.

Amazon's overwhelming popularity and traffic must draw them as sellers. That does not say much about those businesses' future prospects as independent websites.

They've been a merchant on Amazon for quite a while now. I've also noticed what Clark Kent pointed out that items are often cheaper from them when you buy through Amazon than they are on their own website.

I noticed that yesterday. I ordered some BD-R discs, but Amazon did not have them in stock. There were about 10 other companies that had the same item listed that I could choose from too. They weren't just small companies that you have never heard of either. I have seen Buy.com, Tigerdirect, J&R...

I don't see Buy.com sticking around much longer. I don't know anybody who uses them honestly. Plus their website is ferocious. It almost looks like a scam website.

I noticed like some here that there are some big names in the Amazon market place. Always seen them. However, I never expected Amazon's direct competitor (if you can say that) to also be on there.

Buy.com sells on eBay too, albeit as "Buy - The Internet Superstore" since eBay doesn't allow sellers to advertise their own websites.

GoHastings sells on Amazon and Half.com as well.
