I bought a brand new Paradigm DSP 310 10 inch subwoofer and it rocks....
when it works... The first time I tried it, I watched The Subway fight scene in The Matrix. The bass was so deep and loud i could feel it in my ears, I really did. I also manage to listen some other bombastic tracks like Quantum of Solace and Master And commander. THe problem is that for no apparent reason my Subwoofer stops working after every 3 hours of work. I havent abused of it and it hadnt make any strange noise like if it was broken of something. I thought I had to reset it, like it had some Secrurity device or something... but it dosent have any reset. So I re-plugged it, and it worked... for 3 hours... Ive already called for a replacement but my little finger tells me that the problem resides in my AV Receiver. Is it possible that my old 2002 Technics AV Receiver dosent allow my Subwoofer to work as long as it should? Important notice: Ive been told my Subwoofer has its own Amplifier so the Receiver shouldnt matter. |

On the back of the receiver does it have a place to plug the sub cable into.

If it works normally for three hours and stops working then it's most likely the amp on the sub. I don't think it would be your home theater amp simply because it's a preout signal, we aren't talking about something that requires a lot of effort. However it is an older amp so it would be worth double checking that the amp isn't the source of the problem using a different sub. Any sub will do, I'm sure you can find one off craigs list for 5$ as long as they guy can prove it works before the sale. It's unlikely that it's the driver because anything that would prevent the driver from working to that degree is likely to be long term.

I was figuring it was the amplifier within the sub itself over-heating. Would be strange that it was always 3-hours...but ok. But if the sub works fine when plugged into a different source unit, that does lead us to the Technics. But why would the receiver stop output on a low-level signal (RCA) after a certain amount of time??? You mentioned the sub doesn't stop completely, just drops in output. You put your hand on the woofer and feel it moving. How close to your fronts is the sub? Are we sure it's moving itself...or possibly is it just vibrating from the sound pressure in the room? (becoming a passive-radiator) |
