Here's a list of titles which merit re-releases. Be it shoddy transfer (DNR/EE only since film grain is SUPPOSED to be there! Don't even argue against this as this thread is for film grain enthusiasts), earlier/current releases which use MPEG2, mediocre extras, lossy audio (for the original audio track) and so forth.
This list isn't exhaustive as it shall only contain titles I'm interested to own in my collection. BEETLEJUICE - 20th Anniversary Edition MY @$$! You can't call an anniversary edition by sticking everything from the DVD release and just mediocrially putting on TWO episodes of the animated series! Needs a re-release. Perhaps a brand-new commentary, extensive extras WITH Tim Burton, Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Winona Ryder and everyone else they could get their hands on! I'd only buy this shoddy release when it goes to $6.99 or lower. Battle of Britain - Well I'm glad this can be purchased for cheap since I'll be treating this as a third disc for the 2-Disc edition I own on DVD. Misfire release. BLACK RAIN - Early Blu-ray release. Would just want a re-release with better video encode (uses MPEG2, right?) which would fit onto BD50 and also a lossless audio track. Throw in the Japanese exclusive extras, subtitle them and you bet I'd buy this release. A Bridge too Far - What I typed for Battle of Britain applies here. CAST AWAY - Maybe this would be the same situation as for FROM HELL but I'm going to look more at DVDCompare.net for finalization. FROM HELL - Actually this would be misleading as the Blu-ray disc is actually just the first disc from the 2-Disc Edition. If one already has the 2-Disc Edition in their collection, just use the Blu-ray as an "upgrade" for the first disc and problem solved, for now. ![]() Mission: Impossible Trilogy - An offender of MPEG2 and lossy audio which also are on BD-25's. Needs re-release using either VC-1 or AVC, DTS-HD Master Audio and BD-50's. All extras remaining the same. MIGHT happen for Mission: Impossible IV. The NeverEnding Story - I mean come on, JUST the theatrical trailer is the sole extra?! I would've had BOTH versions of the film via seamless branching, commentary and special features with practically EVERYONE involved in the film, extensive storyboards, concept art and more. Probably I would've made it a 2-Disc set without a digital copy. Of course I'd use DTS-HD Master Audio for both the original audio tracks, no fake 5.1 bump-up remix. PATTON - Although I haven't seen this title in a very very long time, HEAVILY EXCESSIVE DNR/EE is uncalled for for ANY film on Blu-ray which uses celluloid! Needs a remaster and a disc exchange program. Planet of the Apes (2001) - I got this in the (1968)/(2001) dual pack and I'm just using it as a third disc in my 2-Disc Special Edition. Needs to be released with all features included, NO ECO BOX! PREDATOR - I'd actually buy the current release if it ever fell under $9.99 Where are all the extras from the 2-Disc DVD? Third-disc treatmeant? RoboCop - C'mon, my purchased 20th Anniversary Edition in the Steelbook DVD release is far superior compared to this shoddy release! Needs to be BD-50, lossless original audio, BOTH versions of the film via seamless branching and ALL the extras from the release I mentioned in the first part of this. RONIN - Where are the extras from the Collector's Edition DVD? The Terminator - Special Edition perhaps? I'd have the original theatrical audio, which is monaural, be MANDATORIALLY lossless and the fake 5.1 remix to be lossy. Zero DNR/EE, retain the original intended color palette/tinting for the film, have all extras from the Special Edition and then some. Instant purchase, especially if it uses the original font from the film for the design layouts, menus and etcetera. Terminator 2: Judgment Day - I'm just going to buy the Japanese 2-Disc release (EXPENSIVE!) compared to the DNR/EE infested Skynet Edition. Maybe even wait until 2011 for a better release for the 20th Anniversary? To be continued... Last edited by Ray_Rogers; 12-06-2010 at 05:10 AM. |
